Taylor Dayne's Tell It to My Heart vs. Mariah Carey's Mariah Carey

Taylor kicks Mariah's ass.

What's up with all of these So and So Versus So and So threads? Some of them don't make a lot of sense. Like this one. Again, comparing these two albums is comparing apples to oranges. What's next? Comparing Lady GaGa to Nancy Wilson?lol lol lol

Apples and oranges? Really? lol

I'd say that these were both apples, and from the the same tree.

Taylor has a good voice, but I haven't heard her music other than Tell It To My Heart. She sounds exciting and upbeat, and Mariah more chill though also with good grooves. I'm going with Mariah, early Mariah is gold

Dont get me wrong Taylor Dayne can sing but Mariah's debut album blows Taylor's out the water. Notice the difference with the 80s synth pop sound of Taylor's compared to Mariah's. I loved 'Ill Always Love You' by Taylor but she was not better vocally than 'Vision of Love'.

My vote goes to Taylor Dayne, hands down.

And BTW, I think a Teena Marie VS. Taylor Dayne would have been a better match-up if this was about power vocals.

See Taylor can sang her ass off but that cheap 80's music behind her voice just kills it for me. I'ma go with Mariah due to her entire sound being more tolerable plus I absolutely love her tone and her range.

I couldn't have been a kid throughout the 80's, even if I was born in 88 lol That cheap sound is a mess.

Both singers influenced Christina Aguilera lol

But, see, there's a difference. Yeah, a lot of the actual synch-driven music from the mid to late 80's may have sounded "cheap" but at least there were great VOICES to go along with it to take up the slack.

Today, you have recycled, computerized beats and lousy voices to go along with it to make matters worse. lol

I started this thread as a quasi-joke, but Taylor's debut and Mariah's debut are actually *very* similar. Songs like "Someday" and "Prisoner" sound akin to early Taylor Dayne music. Truth be told, Taylor should have had the career Mariah and Celine had, but simply didn't have the machine behind her because Arista already had a goldmine with Whitney.

This is very true.... I grew up during the 90's so I'm apart of the last mohecans so to speak. Even the music that I listened to during my teen years weren't the mainstream pop of the day. I was more into R&B/Soul, Jazz and Gospel. I'm just now veering into soulful Pop and Rock territories. lol lol

SO TRUE ^^^^^ I wonder if Whitney had something to do with that there's never been two DIVAS on the same label.

Nippy and Aretha were on the same label.

Interesting topic. I love both, but would have to go with MC's debut (thinking on non-singles too).

I think Taylor Dayne should have been a bigger star. Her voice has held up so well.

We all know Mariah and Whitney have had their voices change over the years.

Taylor is like a Patti LaBelle or Barbra Streisand. Her voice is just as powerful today as it was 23 years ago in '88.

I also saw her in "Aida" on Broadway in 2001. This diva can sing anything.
