Jagged Little Pill vs. Tidal

vs.

When Alanis broke through as the mid-'90s poster child for long-haired female angst, Fiona and a lot of others soon followed. Which of these two classic '90s CDs is your fave?

Never heard Tidal, is it really comparable in quality to JLP?

yeahthat Both albums had a huge impact on me...

  1. Sleep to Dream vs. All I Really Want
  2. Sullen Girl vs. You Oughta Know
  3. Shadowboxer vs. Perfect
  4. Criminal vs. Hand In My Pocket
  5. Slow Like Honey vs. Right Through You
  6. The First Taste vs. Forgiven
  7. Never Is a Promise vs. You Learn
  8. The Child Is Gone vs. Head Over Feet
  9. Pale September vs. Mary Jane
  10. Carrion vs. Ironic

I love both leftover tracks from Jagged Little Pill:

Not The Doctor
Wake Up

this just doesn't feel right...

Now if we juged on total discorgraphy Fiona would win by miles.

My vote goes the Jagged Little Pill. It's THE only album by Alanis worth owning even today. cool

Fiona only has 3 CD's. She seems to release a CD every 6 years. According to Wiki a new CD will come out in 2012. Can't wait! She is also on a Buddy Holly Compilation released recently.

1996 Tidal
  • First studio album
  • Release date: July 23, 1996
  • Label: Clean Slate/Epic Records
1999 When the Pawn…

Odd albums to compare, IMO, since their quite different.

I still listen to Tidal at times. Most of it isn't as great as I used to think, but it's still quite good. Still love Sullen Girl and Never is a Promise (which have made their way onto some MP3 playlists). Sleep to Dream is great as well. Shadowboxer, which I onced liked, is extremely "meh" now. But, again, overall, still a very good album, though my excitement for it overall has diminished slightly.

While I own Jagged Little Pill (or more accurately, a burned copy (I once owned a cassette version)), it would NEVER cross my mind to actually listen to it. It's not bad by any means. But, it sounds sort of dated and the [Glenn Ballard (edit)] production is readily apparent and, at times, intrusive. There are any number of songs from JLP that I'll happily listen to if I come across them on the radio. But, I would never seek JLP out when trying to come up with something to play or to put onto my MP3 player.

Mutt didn't produce JLP, it was produced by Glen Ballard.

I stand corrected. I knew it was some super-producer. Regardless, my point remains about the production. I'll edit my post.

Correct. nod Legend has it that Alanis & Glen did have a very brief romance during the Jagged Little Pill sessions, which would also gives Alanis "F***ing For Tracks" status! lol

Damn, I really really like both these albums. I love how I forget about how great Tidal is and it blows me away whenever I return to it but I think JLP edges out over it.
