Peter Gabriel Gives Classic Songs Orchestral Treatment?
August 14, 2011
Peter Gabriel has announced he’ll be releasing a new album this October. Actually, although the album is new, the songs are not. New Blood will feature Gabriel classics such as “In Your Eyes” and “Solsbury Hill” delivered in new renditions without drums, bass or guitar, according to reports.
The new version of “Solsbury Hill” takes an experimental turn; it begins with five minutes of sound recorded on Solsbury Hill in Somerset, England.
Peter Gabriel, New Blood tracklist: “Rhythm of the Heat”“Downside Up” (featuring Melanie Gabriel)“San Jacinto”“Intruder”“Wallflower”“In Your Eyes”“Mercy Street”“Red Rain”“Darkness”“Don’t Give Up” (featuring Ane Brun)“Digging in the Dirt”“The Nest that Sailed the Sky”“A Quiet Moment”“Solsbury Hill”

Why not? They certainly stand up to the test.

Most of the songs are unmatched and classics in their own lifetime. Sting took the identical route last year on his endearingly boring Symphonicities album. Peter going in this direction is indicative, for me at least, of someone bereft of fresh songwriting ideas, missing a creative spark.

I'd rather this then what Prince has released over the past couple years. Whichone hurtrs one's legacy more? Space for sale...

I grudgedly agree with you. "Miser" Nelson has done more to undo his life's work than Sting or Gabriel combined. He needs a swift kick in the pants, and a proper management team to steer his career.

This guy has always known to experiment anyway so it's all good.

thanks for posting the news:
It's for me a bit hard to imagine those tracks played by an orchestra alone.

Redoing past hits in a orchestra setting isn't my idea of forward-looking and avant-garde. It's something that could have been thought up a long time ago.

I'd prefer Lotuslow3r or 20ten over any of this "pop meets classic" crap anytime.
