I Don't Need No Doctor

I had been meaning to start a thread on this tune after I heard a very nice treatment by guitarist John Scofield
With the passing of Nick Ashford (co-written with Valerie Simpson and Jo Armstead), I decided to expand it a bit.

...First recorded by Ray Charles (1966)

The next version most are aware of was by...

...Humble Pie on their Rockin' The Fillmore album (1971)

...John Scofield from his album That's What I Say: John Scofield Plays the Music of Ray Charles (2005)

The album features guest vocalists Dr. John, Aaron Neville, Mavis Staples and on this particular track, John Mayer.

There have been other lesser known versions also.

Didn't they start their writing/collaboration debut with this song?

Thanks.

Should've said "First covered by Ray Charles"

No worries, if it hadn't been for you, I would have never found Nick's version.

Not sure if it was the very first, but i'm guessing it was definitely toward the beginning.

One of my favorites anyway.
