Since that's the case, it's a tough call!
EDIT: OK, after have enough time to think about it, my vote goes the Private Dancer.
In fairness to Madonna, Like A Virgin has Angel & Into The Groove, two dance tracks that I still listen to even today.
But to the credit of Tina, Private Dancer has the title track itself, What's Lover Got To Do With It, Better Be Good To Me, & Show Some Respect. Even Tina's cover versions of Stay Together & Can't Stand The Rain are (IMHO) better than the original versions. Therefore, the album overall deserves my vote. [Edited 8/10/11 20:39pm]

Private Dancer! Like A Virgin is actually my 2nd least favorite Madonna album after Hard Candy!
Some of the song's are just so bland! i don't like Material Girl, Pretender is , Stay is a good song and bring's back some good memories
Like A Virgin the song is a classic but i think it's a bit overrated, Dress You Up is a great single though... and Angel to. Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

I've never even listened to Private Dancer, but I'd probly choose it over LAV.
Madge's only bad CD, it is the definition of singles and filler. 2012: The Queen Returns

Tina Turner by far. Whats Love Got To Do is one of my favorite songs to sing in karaoke.
Madonna's 80's music is so bubblegum wack to me. Stevie Wonder = EARTH
Prince = WIND Chaka Khan = FIRE Sade = WATER the ELEMENTS of MUSIC

I LOVE "Private Dancer".....but it makes me sad to listen to it. The whole premise...... Never trust anything spoken in the presence of an erection.

dayum...why so much LAV hate???
BOTH came out in 1984
BOTH are the two biggest female icons of the 80s (sorry, Jan, you were more the biggest icon 89-94)
LAV has
Angel Stay Pretender Shoo Be Doo Love Don't Live Here Anymore Dress You Up
...what's not to love? I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

As a huge Madonna fan, I can honestly say I skip over all of those songs on my ipod. IMO LAV is only good for it's title track. 2012: The Queen Returns

I really don't care for either song. Madonna's vocals are horrid on LAV and PD just sounds like elevator music. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!
RIP Dick Clark, Whitney Houston, Don Cornelius, Heavy D, and Donna Summer.

It's impossible to really compare the two. "Private Dancer" is Soul & Rock while "Like A Virgin" is Pop. the biggest thing they have in common is they both came out in 1984. That's about it. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

I don't like any of those. 'Dress You Up,' is mildly entertaining but not memorable. That song and the title track are probably all I have off that album.
Private Dancer is a better album all around. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

"Dress You Up" is way better than "Like a Virgin." "Into the Groove" is a billion times better than anything on this album; I still don't know why they didn't make it a bonus track on the remastered edition.
As is, I gotta go with Tina on this one. Add "Into the Groove" and I'd take Madonna. [Edited 8/12/11 19:48pm] "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

^- Exactly how I feel because it is really hard to choose one better, I look at the whole image of them in 1984. It is also like leather or lace?
