Rupaul, a gay icon, has paved the way for genderfucks across the globe with his signature hits!
Safe to say that without Ru blazing the trail, artists like Lady Gaga and other gender-bending pop stars would lack a little bit of their lustre.

There were musicians gender-bending or being androgynous long before Ru-Paul. Hell, there were musicians in DRAG long before RuPaul, too.

While that's true, there were not openly gay musicians around before RuPaul (barring Queen's Freddie Mercury, who died the year Ru's first hit entered the charts). RuPaul put a face on Gay for a while for many people. Whether or not you really like that idea, it's the case. Ru's presence on MTV, which was huge, helped the effort to normalize homosexuality for a society that still remembers people like Harvey Milk, Alan Turing, and Oscar Wilde who were all murdered for being openly gay despite paving the way for everyone who came behind them.
While not the originator (who is?), Ru's impact is undeniable, enviable, and epic.
