The songs themselves don't sound alike, but the bassline to all three "I Can't Help Myself," "Billie Jean," and "Like a Virgin" are all similiar to each other.

Well, this is just silly. There is a fair bit of filler on the two Madonna albums while Off the Wall and Thriller are virtually flawless. Even Madonna would vote for Michael in this poll. lol

I prefer MJ's start to finish too and for all the talent, but find myself listening to Madonna's two though not for all the tracks. From that period, I would play Destiny and Triumph more and then later and earlier MJ

I re-listened to those songs to note the similiarities and they are not complete rip-offs though I could hear what you're talking about and all the songs were made their own

Even after BJ, lots of songs were copying it. Carribbean Queen, She Works Hard For The Money, etc.

It's not that dumb, most people who were around in the 80's know they were both the biggest stars of the decade

That has NOTHING to do with quality and music. I wasnt calling you dumb... just saying it is dumb because the thread question is rather rhetorical.. Michael of course had the better albums... I busted out laughing at the comparision lol lol lol

What music video was that? lol lol

I'm merely a casual MJ fan so go easy on me. Madge is a no talent so I had to get in a dig at her lol

To you she's a 'no-talent'. Your opinion is just that, an opinion, not a fact.

And - do your own homework, I'm not going to spoonfeed you. But yes, MJ did plenty of attention-whore shit himself and outdid Madonna in that respect a thousand times over.

No to SEVERAL people she is talent-LESS

do your damn homework. No one even agreed with your [Snip - luv4u] opinion that MJ was jealous of Madonna.

I don't think any of these songs are "ripping off" The Four Tops song. Many songs have similar chord structures.I've heard some people insist that "Billie Jean" borrows its bassline from Steely Dan's "Do It Again"...does this mean that Steely Dan are also ripping off the Four Tops? biggrin It's silly to look at music this way.

Nile Rodgers who produced Like A Virgin said on the BBC doco Walk On By that it was an homage to the Motown sound and influenced by I Can't Help Myself.

Off The Wall/Thriller - stronger as a couple for me. cool

Off The Wall - I like most in this quartet.
Thriller - the most successful album, it is simply impossible to ignore.
