I WOULD where she presented during a time when "Troop Dancing" was new to music vids, and via Paula Adbul's coaching, it was brought to the forefront of music at a time when that didn't really previously exist. She's also legendary where she amassed millions of dollars in record sales from her 3rd album ("Control") in 1986 consistently through to 2001's "All For You." That's almost 20 years of HUGE albums. It wasn't until 2004's "Damita Jo" that things began to slip. Under Flyte Tyme, though, she had her BIGGEST successes. Unlike Madonna, she really didn't pioneer any major fashion trends, but was "legendary" as far as the impact her music had worldwide and as far as being the MOST SUCCESSFUL/talented female sibling of the entire Jackson clan. biggrin

Janet was legendary from Control to The Velvet Rope. After that - she's a has-been.

I'm not even going to lie Madonna could dress her ass off back then, that's probably the main reason why I like her , lol . But anywho I think Damita Jo would've been a flop anyways, I dont have any favorites from that album and it got bad reviews. But everything from control-all for you was the shit! lol

Yes, I'd say that Janet is an icon and legend. She's been in the business for years and has had some truly groundbreaking albums, videos and choreography. Janet has had an impact on Pop Culture that can still be seen today. The answer is yes for me.

No, she has good CDs but nothing groundbreaking and to the public eye its like she never existed. Shes not remembered, and being slighty above average doesnt qualify you for the status Legendary.

What do you mean by that? Because a lot of women from this generation seem to take influence from her. confused

Her impact on both Pop and R&B (The birth of Contemporary R&B) with the Control and RN1814 albums. The way she followed her brother's footsteps by incorporating dance and style into her music videos to where they became events at the time.

This is the sad truth. There are artists who came after her who are still remembered despite their troubles and such. It's like Janet disappeared from the public.

There are artists who have been able to maintain their musical legacy over the years. I'm not naming any names because this thread will deteriorate. But I think you get the idea...

Madonna is def. one and Janet used publicity which led to her career nose diving even more then it did before.
