Steveland Is the shit on the keys! I love the dreamy stuff he use to do in the 70's. He did for the synths what Jimi did for the electric guitar imo....

Second that! Stevie basically redefined what magic keyboards, synthesizers and pianos could create. Herbie Hancock said it best..."Stevie allows the synthesizers to be what they are..."

So glad you picked that album and song to showcase Stevie's ability. I tell everybody that to behold Stevie in all his greatness as a musician is to closely listen to the Secret Life of Plants album. Extraodinary skills!! UGH!! Love that man.

That whole album showed how much of a keyboard virtuoso Stevie is, there're small details through out the album that make me SMH in amazement . I'm still waiting for the remastered version to be released so I could savor the sounds more.

The Secret Life Of Plants is brilliant. Nobody includes it in his/her Stevie's favourites. I do. Flower Power, Come Back As A Flower, Ecclesiastes, etc. Awesome.

I do, go search the forum. You even named my 3 favorite songs on it!

If it wasn't for Stevie as a keyboard/piano/synth player I wouldnt be who I am today. He influenced my own playing so much that I cant live without it. Stevie is the man always. And I love the Journey Through The Secret Life Of Plants record!

Hey, we seem to have similar tastes, with the exception of TTD's Vibrator!

This forum in the non-Prince section. We've talked about how great this album was. Some even said how it was totally overlooked and underrated, which I can agree.
This was Stevie at his most experimental. I think he psychologically was affected by its failure since he's struggled to come up with material like this ever since. When I was coming up, I only knew Stevie from radio hits. Wasn't later that I understood why he was called a musical genius and this album definitely is an example of it.

That's why I love this concert at the LOC...he was still writing pieces like it just never released...

Yeah I can't believe he sits on that stuff, Tim!!! Its an amazing piece.
I don't get it either. Guess that's Stevie's quirky, bizarre side. It seems every genius thing he's done never gets put out. You think a man who's been in one label for 50 years would finally just do what he wants. I don't get it.

Thank you, I'll look for it.
It's a brilliant album, it definitely should be included among his masterpieces. It's actually very sad that it is considered a minor work. I love its minimalism, its variety but, at the same time, cohesion... What a great album.

Exactly. Plus it acts as its own story (as it was based off an actual documentary movie of plants). Stevie got a backlash from pop, rock and R&B fans for this album, which was real unfortunate, but shows how fickle the public is.
