Crystal Waters - "Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless)" & "Makin' Happy" (Remixes) [1991] Give it up for Crystal Waters's first 2 singles, released in April and November of 1991 (yes, 20 years ago)! For my money, both were great songs remixed into pure classics. Ladies and gentlemen of the Org, I present to you the definitive versions: "Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless) [The Basement Boys Strip to the Bone Mix]" and "Makin' Happy (Hurley's Happy House Mix)." (For comparison I put the original versions on the right.)

La Da Di, La Di Da... You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Damn Kim Wayans for ruining the song for me
Slightly O/T, but I only recently found out that Crystal Waters is Ethel Waters grandkid

I was going to post that initially, but figured I'd wait until someone mentioned it. I still remember the first time I saw it.
In retrospect, it's not quite as funny as I found it back then, but "Ha ha hee, ha ha ho, I'll be rich, you'll be po'" still gets me every time.
They actually mentioned that quite a bit back then. [Edited 8/12/11 19:36pm] "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

For me, "Gypsy Woman" was, one of the GREATEST house records of all time. I was one of the first NY DJ's to play it, back then. As for the other songs, I liked them also. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

As much as I like these songs, i think this is still her best track

No way. "100% Love" is a good song, but it's a distant third place IMO. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis
