This is my favorite joint right now, and has been since it dropped.
I proclaimed the instrumental as "minimalistic genius" to one of my friends when I first heard it. ( I still stand by this statement).
Who in their right mind would make a song with a repetitive soul sample and NO HOOK and release it as a single?
Not since TRIUMPH by the Wu-Tang Clan has a hiphop song without a chorus made it to the radio and recieved a fair share of airplay. (I could be wrong here, but there isn't a song in the same veinthat matches the magnitude of Otis or Triumph)
Yeah, the subject matter is hollow, but this is HIPHOP in it's purest form.
SAMPLING is the foundation of rap music, if you want to sit and complain about it, then you clearly aren't built for this!

Jay-Z is a 3rd degree (rogue) Freemason. What else is there to explain. [Edited 8/24/11 14:52pm]

I think you're missing the point. Jay-Z is at a point in his career that he can do whatever he wants musically without having any second thoughts of whelther or not it's a good or bad idea, given the state of the American economy. This was also why Chuck D did a response to their track:

Jay drops some knowledge on the album though.
Chuck D caught feelings like a little bitch over nothing.

Chuck is a hip-hop/rap elder. He earned the absolute right to bitch!

He could have made his statement without using Kanye and Jay as a trampoline.

Why not?
Their VERY good examples.
Thats the problem.
Alot of these old heads NEVER tell the truth. When Rev Run came to my school for a Hip Hop forum my jaw nearly dropped when he basically praised Drake, Wayne, Nikki and said he like the direction of where hip hop was going Now of course we ALL know thats bullshit and the only reason why he said that was because their were a bunch of teens in the room... c'mon now...
The truth hurts but it is what it is.

Just so you know, Chuck D, Ice-T, & Afrika are THE main 3 hip-hop/rap elders I've notices that have the balls to say anything negative about the state of the industry. And plese don't me started about how much Professor Griff has said about these issues already!

I hate this "beat". The vocal samples annoy the living shit outta me. I've waited a couple weeks to see if it would grow on me. But.... ehhh, no. I hate it. Some interesting wordplay gping on in the song, too. But it has NOTHING to do with the sampled Otis Redding lyrics.
