Somebody Anybody REvamp PRINCE.ORG I havent seen a more dated board anywhere else on the net..its so frusting to post here...every reply opens a whole new page ...smh.. cant a reply just be added without a new pae being opened ?Those who runs ths site are you still stuck in 1999 ??? i mean i know its a fanboard dedicated to prince but that doesnt mean you have to be stuck in the 80s like he is..
Mjjcommunity has been revamped and now its easier to use you gotta admit this format her is not user friendly at all ..do something about it please..i know im not the only one who feels this way ..no other website freezes my browser like this ancient place does ...and i use a mac which is supposed to be freeze proof . Yeah, it needs a major upgrade. Avatars needs to be bigger. The theme of the website needs fixing.
But maybe it cost money to do all that.
Wrong forum by the way. | |

This is your idea of a site that works well?
I'm not going to deny that prince.org wouldn't have its own problems, but that forum isn't any kind of an improvement over this one. It's messy, sluggish and the page format takes entirely too much space on the screen considering that many people use laptop computers with rather small screens these days.
I don't see what's the problem with a reply opening up a new page. It just ensures that the browser doesn't have to load the reply box each time you just want to read the topics posted here, but aren't in the mood for posting any replies yourself. Not everyone uses a high-speed internet connection.
If somebody told you that Macintosh computers are freeze proof then you've been lied to.

what you said almost make no sense..i use a mac..and i said no other webiste makes my browser freeze lie prince.org..
and exactly no everybody uses high speed internet that why you sould be able to reply withouth an entirely new page being opened ..and sane person will tell you that mjjcommunity's format is billion times better than prince org

MJJC worked better before it crashed and it was redesigned. Now it loads too slow and looks cheap. I rarely go there anymore because of this, but then again I pretty much stopped going there long before it was changed. If your browser freezes on pages that have a lot of linked content to Youtube that is most likely due to problems with the flash integration on your version of Mac OS and the drivers being far from being optimal for it. The same problem appears on many older Windows machines as well, but that's not the fault of the people running this forum and I don't know how they could improve the situation (other than by disabling the youtube links). Of course, the users on this site could abstain from posting an endless amount of youtube links. The Michael Jackson thread on this forum is usually so full of them that many older computers often freeze when viewing it. The same goes for many current low-spec units and the cheaper Macintosh ones go in that category as well.
Prince.org uses a "MS Word" type of a formatting window for writing the replies. It makes quoting other users easier and provides some other convenient formatting functions. I don't like it too much myself, but it makes things a lot easier for many others. However, it seems to be a rather heavy applet and there's no reason to load it up by default (the link in the source code is simply to "reply.php", so I can't comment very easily on how it works exactly). You are not expected to post on each and every thread that you read anyway. Again, you may suffer from freezing and lagging issues on pages that have a lot of linked content.
One way to improve your user experience is to uncheck the box "Full recap on reply?" on your profile settings page (go to "My org -> Forums"). If you want to be able to see the replies on the threads at the same time just open the reply page in a new browser window (shouldn't be too hard). You may also want to limit the amount of posts that gets displayed per page from the same settings, which should help with the memory issues with linked content. I've cut it down to 100, because I'm not using a very new computer.
The MJJcommunity site that you have provided suffers from many of the basic mistakes forum designs should avoid. Starting with allowing users to use big ass gifs on their signatures and using so big banners at the top of the page that the forum can't display more than just a few topic titles without forcing users with smaller screens to scroll down the page. Prince.org might look quite old-fashioned, but at least it gets these type of things right. [Edited 8/11/11 11:07am]

Actually, yeah I do. This site takes time to getting used to, but it needs an update real bad. The reply messages are a mess, because in order for it to look decent you have to edit the HTML rather than just making it easier for users to just have them edit the message, itself.
You can't multi-quote, so I have to open new tabs in order to do that. Can't really access your old posts. Have to, severely adjust my setting so I could continue posting otherwise it would crash my browser. That's just shouldn't have to be necessary. The MJJC looks like a hot mess and it's hard to get past the login page, but if you bookmark the forum, itself, it's a real breeze. They do need a limit on signature sizes though.
Even if this forum had that kind of problem...it would still be ok. [Edited 8/11/11 11:11am]

I agree that the reply window doesn't work well at all. I have to resort to editing it as html way too often (yes, it indeed sucks). I do understand that it's still an improvement over the old one for many users.

The good thing about MJJC is that threads never expire like this site. So you don't have to make multiple threads about the same thing after two months. You can go to a 4 year old thread and still comment on it. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I have nothing against this forum, while it may not be ''up to date'' graphically speaking, I prefer it to stay simple, easy to use. I hate it when I go to a forum and everything's changing every month.. I stopped going to a forum because the owner just couldn't stop himself from changing the top banners, the colors, the fonts... every month, please bring some stability!
I do go to MJJC and I appreciate the efforts they make to keep it nice and clean, but I just can't stand all those points, achievements and that dozens of useless stuff you have on your profile (that you now have to search for cause you just don't know which way to go to get there) I also don't like that the smileys are not easier to include in maessage, you have to open the other window, then they appear one after the other and it takes forever to see them all and find the onw you need... Their avatar size is ok, and there used to be a rule saying not to have oversized signature... seems like it's gone cause it now takes forever to go to the bottom of the page.
I do like that the threads on MJJC stays up forever and doesn't get closed, like the one above me said, you can take a 4 years old thread like 'What's your favorite MJ slow song' and still answer it without starting a new thread every 2 months...

I like the rawness of this site. I don't want it to be as fancy as MJJF was (yeah I still call MJJC MJJF). Besides if I know someone has posted too many videos here (SEAN!) then that's sign for me not to enter until someone puts it at another page.

I've never understood what this was added for. You get some sort of "trophy" if you do a lot of posting. The old version didn't have this. But I've never seen the point of the "Tabloid Junkie" section either. I never went in it. But I guess since people think TMZ is news, many sites is all "Tabloid Junkie". My only wish would be for larger (100px by 100px) avatars (...or at least 80px by 80px). Although the 64px avatars do challenge you to be more creative.

I like this site just the way it is.....it's simple, very easy to use. No flashy stuff or anything, just like a board should be. Even the colors are very calming.

It won't. Since it's acknowledged that Prince and purple are still associated with each other to this day, I can't see the colors changing anytime soon.

Seriously, has anyone had freezing problems on this site due to any other reasons than the Youtube videos? I can't recall any such occasions myself.
Prince.org only links the content and the only people that can change the behavior of the Youtube player are the people at Youtube. One of the biggest problems is that Youtube insists on maintaining their Flash-based player and all the additional features on it (the previews, ads, keeping track of what you've watched etc.). Youtube has a lot of problems on Mac OS, UNIX and Linux - as does Flash in general - so blaming prince.org for the problems isn't very fruitful. The whole damn player isn't even provided by the site itself. The player is what freezes the browser, not the code of this site.
This is not a big issue for the main forum as Youtube videos are of limited interest there. The default number of posts per page is quite high ("200"), but I don't think that should be changed just because it causes problems on some of the threads on the other forums. Just adjusting the posts per page count will help a lot in many cases. Perhaps there could be some other remedies to this issue, but I don't blame the site owners for not wanting to spend all their time trying to fix problems that mostly occur on the MJ sticky and "what are you currently blasting through your speakers" type of threads.

I still cant figure out how to highlight my links so you just can click them. So just leave it alone.
My only real beef is the cancel response green box that keeps popping up, caue Im use to just half way through a response thinking its not worth it and going back to my page. Then I have to go back in and cancel anyway [Edited 8/11/11 12:57pm] The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything.

That's the ONLY time this site freezes when people post 100 YouTube videos in one post. Not TheAudience because his multiple YouTube posts at least modestly keep things going. But Sean and Micky... GODDAMN!
