I fully expect "Miseducation" to win this, but my vote goes to "My Life", on the strength of the title track alone. "I don't think you'd do well in captivity." - random person's comment to me the other day

The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill without question.
I've had both of these cd's since they first came out. I can honestly say I haven't listened to My Life in years. I still listen to The Miseducation.......weekly and it still has the same inpact on me. I don't think I will ever grow tired of it.

Echo that! "My Life" is one of the finest uses of source material, ever. I can hear the crescendo in my head right now - "my life my life my life ... in the sunshine." That is perfection right there. Love MOLH, but in all of the best on it, and there is a lot of best on it, no single moment touches "My Life."

no contest, 'Miseducation not even by a mile.

It's very unfair to ask to pick between these two. Leaving me no choice than to (with guilt) go with The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. It's a draw for me because that's one hard choice. I'd give it to Miseducation for L-Boogie's range and scope, whereas I'd give it to My Life for Mary's heart and honesty. Check me out and add me on:

I think that Lauryn is the true Queen of Hip Hop Soul..... she embodies both parts while Mary just sung about the blues over a hip hop beat. Love both albums but Miseducation is pure genius and never duplicated.
My Life is my 2nd fave from Mary..... if you had of said the Mary album then I would thrown up the white flag. Stevie Wonder = EARTH

My Life.
Lauryn Hill has always bored me to tears. Furthermore, what really annoyed me about her album was how while she was singing, she'd be randomly talking in the background. WTF was that?!
Give me ol' caterwauling Mary and her miserable, demon-afflicted, cry for help, oversampled-to-the-point-of-plagiarism My Life album over the arrogance of Miseducation any and every day of the week.

One's hip-hop soul, emotionally wrought and dark. Another's vintage soul with some hip-hop and reggae features and very upbeat.
Two albums of a different breed... both get praised for being one of the most defining albums of the '90s.
Verdict? My Life. | |

I always thought that Queen of Hip Hop Soul was a silly title but even if Lauryn was the true Queen she abdicated her throne a long time ago.

This is probably the best versus thread yet. I'd say it's a great comparison. 2 albums that do what they do extremely well. Personally, I don't see either artist ever topping these extraordinary efforts. I'll have to think about it some more... "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis
