I know how you feel. It took me sometime to listen to HIStory after he passed away too. I do agree about how the song feels hopeful. Like, it's telling you not to give up even if life sucks. Ah, dammit thinking about this is still kinda sad...

='( To me, this song became more meaningful and special AFTER MJ's death. I don't think I liked this song as much as I do now when MJ was alive...I don't know how to explain this but since his death it has actually been easier for me to see what he was really about. I learned how to truly appreciate songs like this...

When life sorta sucked exactly 10 years ago, Heal The World was so inspirational and hopeful to listen to and I would get emotional. When he went through his struggles shortly after, I felt kinda protective and all kinds of shit and let it build up cause I grew too emotionally attached through his music. I'm glad to hear more people are appreciating his message though he wanted it so bad when alive. He shouldn't have had to die this way for that to happen, it was too harsh and too soon :*(
I'm still not over it, but I'm trying so hard to live life to the fullest and find peace, and admit that the sadness has more to do with me than him though I love him too.

Heal The World is the only song on Dangerous that I don't like. The intro to Black Or White is always skipped as is the long intro to Will You Be There. I also think Heal The World or She Drives Me Wild should've been replaced with Monkey Business and Someone Put Your Hand Out or Superfly Sister
This may not make sense, but Dangerous had better songs, but RN was a better album. Dangerous is like 2 albums.
Part One- Michael and Teddy's Dangerous Jam Why You Wanna Trip On Me In The Closet She Drives Me Wild Remember The Time Can't Let Her Get Away
Part Two- Michael's Dangerous Heal The World Black Or White Who Is It Give In To Me Will You Be There Keep The Faith Gone Too Soon Dangerous
Michael was recording Dangerous (originally the Decade project) from 1988-1991 and Rhythm Nation was on of the albums he was listening to at the time along with New Edition's Heartbreak, Guy's debut album, and a couple of other NJS albums "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

yeah I agree it does feel like two albums at times, I can put on side 2 at anytime, and have to be in the mood for side 1
Everyone keeps saying Dangerous has better songs than RN but RN flows better, I totally agree with that too, it was just so well made(RN). And Dangerous are considered better songs cause of the two, it's more timeless [Edited 8/10/11 23:26pm]

Rhythm Nation is one of the albums where I REALLY want to hear the outtakes. Bryan Loren uploaded "Work" online and I wonder if she was working with him before Jam And Lewis fully got on board "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Keep The Faith is awesome!!!!! Stop hating, the lyrics are powerful
Work was recorded in 88' before J&L were recruited for RN, which they almost didn't do cause of A&M not allowing it. Janet wanted them and got her way in the end. Bboy, have you heard Skin Game and You Need Me? They are B-sides for some RN singles, You Need Me was going to be used cause the album was initially to be called Scandal and she would address family issues. [Edited 8/10/11 23:30pm]

When it was released, it was said this song was written for a movie that was to star Janet and all of The Time members. What the supposed movie was going to be about, I don't know. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

That's my first time hearing it, maybe they were going to call it Scandal and get Joseph mad....he didn't want her sounding like Prince, so she wanted to 'act' like Prince with The Time

I'm gonna give Teddy Riley's version of Dangerous another try since I enjoy him as a producer. The "Michael" side features all those corny ass ballads that I hate I'm really not being an ass when I say I don't care for Michael's music outside of Quincy. He just came up with some mess without a talented producer there to reel his ass back in. Stevie Wonder = EARTH
Prince = WIND Chaka Khan = FIRE Sade = WATER the ELEMENTS of MUSIC

Although I still like his music of the 90's and so forth even if I don't always agree with how the album is arranged though the songs stand well on their own regardless, do some of you who are indifferent to his work post quincy feel that maybe he really would have done well in acting or directing instead? Or writing songs for others?

Although I disagree with you, I understand why people feel that way. His music took a different direction and many people just didn't like it. At the same time, I think the 1989-1997 material was some of his best. I don't think songs like Stranger In Moscow, Who Is It, Money, Morphine, Little Susie (which Michael wrote during Off The Wall) and They Don't Care About Us would've happened if Quincy was at the producing helm

Rhythm Nation although Remember the time is a great NSJ record. Also would put Control above Bad.
In 1991 MJ wanted to follow a trend which was almost over, the more smooth and slower RnB/NSJ was becoming the new trend like SWV, Jodeci, MJBlige etc.

One thing both albums suffer for is overdrawn intros and interludes "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I'm going Dangerous. Just a personal choice. Janet's okay as an artist and Rhythm Nation is my favourite album of hers, but I know which album I've listened to far far FAR more often. Dangerous.

Intros & Interludes should be banned from all albums in general!

Of all her albums, Rhythm Nation is definately Janet's "Thriller" in terms of the sheer strength and chart success of its singles, and that every song on the album could have been a radio hit. "Get up off that grey line"

Yea! The movie idea came from the long version short film reworked live version of Control. That Janet did with The Time. I kind of wish it would have happened. It seemed like a good idea. But I almost felt like Janet was kind of replacing an urban Prince at this time. Just seem like she was being inserted into a female member of The Time. That "Scandal" project would have been just that & the lyrics to "U need me" was a sad story of Joe. will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! "Skin Game" had a simple funky groove that was indicative of that RN era. Featured Johnny Gill on BGV's. Good message. A little repetitive at the end but still cool
"You Need Me" was always a favorite B-side of mine because of its HONESTY and groove of course. Love the subtle two-part harmony on the verses too.
