Rhythm Nation 1814 vs. Dangerous

vs.

Who had the better New Jack Swing album? Younger sister and rising star Janet or megastar Michael? One came out at the rise of New Jack - 1989, while the other arrived at it's peak - 1991.

As much as I stan for Mike, I'm gonna have to go with Janet here. Rhythm Nation was a bona fide New Jack classic.

Rhythm Nation - easily. You should have done one for Control vs. Bad; that would have made me have to think for five seconds. This was a no-brainer.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

1) Jam vs Rhythm Nation

2) Why You Wanna Trip on Me vs State of The World

3) In The Closet vs The Knowledge

4) She Drives Me Wild vs Miss You Much

5) Remember The Time vs Love Will Never Do Without You

6) Can't Let Her Get Away vs Livin' In A World They Didn't Make

7) Heal The World vs Alright

8) Black or White vs Escapade (I hate Escapade! lol I think i'm the only person who can't stand this song)

9) Who Is It vs Black Cat

10)Give In To Me vs Lonely (TIE, I CANNOT choose)

11)Will You Be There vs Come Back to Me (Damn it! Another tie for me. Will You Be There is great, MJ's vocals are fantastic here and moving, but "Come Back To Me" is possibly my fave Janet song ever).

12)Keep The Faith vs Someday Is Tonight

-If I hadn't compared the albums track my track, I would have chosen "Rhythm Nation" right away, but when I compare the individual tracks, I realize I like "Dangerous" more than I thought I did. "Rhythm Nation" for me is Janet's best album. "Dangerous" is one of MJ's best for me, but not his absolute best. "Rhythm Nation" is a brilliant album from beginning to end, but I think the second half of "Dangerous" is just slightly stronger than RN1814.

I still think RN is the better album overall, so I'm gonna have to go with "Rhythm Nation" as my pick biggrin .

"And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ heart

Rhythm Nation 1814. Actually, it's the only Janet Jackson album that I really love. That said, Dangerous is great.

Even MJ had a thing about the Rhythmn Nation disc. I've seen footage of him dancing to it and just waxing rhapsodically about its awesomeness.

Dangerous! Black or white and remember the time. RN's filler songs aren't as strong as Dangerous filler songs

It has got to be Rhythm Nation for me. Dangerous was the album where Michael started to lose me a little bit. Dangerous was over seventy-five minutes long and the songs average about five and a half minutes in length, that's too long for pop songs. For me Dangerous, History and Invincible all suffer because they are too long.

Not one weak track on THIS^ album. Even the somewhat filler like Lonely can get rotation on any Quiet Strom radio format.

Dangerous is FULL of filler and just crap. Jam, Dangerous and Remember The Time are the only songs that I can recall that I thoroughly enjoyed. lol lol

it was those damn intros. Almost every song had to have a "Dramatic" introduction. That's 2 minutes right there!

Just by comparison Dangerous is roughly twice as long as Off the Wall but it only has four more songs. That tells me that the songs on Dangerous are a bit too bloated.

Dangerous, because I like melodies. And I just like Michael's voice better. The guy could sing the phonebook and i would be first in line to buy it. I consider RM a classic though.

This thread IS evil, armpit is right! I think RN flows so great start to finish and there is no Bad track on it. I love Dangerous too and call it my favourite MJ album along with Bad, though Bad flows better. I love all the songs on Dangerous too, but have to be in the right mood for some of them nowadays. And out of the two albums, I feel Dangerous is more timeless and Rhythm Nation is full out New Jack Swing sounding more 80's, though I also feel MJ was inspired by that album and admitted it. Here are my preferences of each track

Jam vs. Rhythm Nation

Why You Wanna Trip On Me vs. State of the World

In the Closet vs. The Knowledge

She Drives Me Wild vs. Miss You Much

Remember The Time vs. Living In A World

Can't Let her Get Away vs. Alright

Heal The World vs. Escapade

Black or White vs. Black Cat (so hard though)

Who Is It vs. Lonely

Give In To Me vs. Come Back To Me (but looove it)

Will You Be There vs. Someday Is Tonight

And love Keep The Faith (one of his best ever), Gone Too Soon, and Dangerous..

Man, I can't believe I chose RN over Dangerous, but I really, really love it, think it's one his most creative works and play it often though the second half more, maybe it's cause lately I've been playing Janet more cause I still feel sad.

I agree with this. Rhythm Nation wins ONLY because it obviously was a more New Jack Swing album than Dangerous obviously.... that doesnt necessarily make it better. This ALL has to do with PREFERENCE BOTH great albums.

To be honest IN GENERAL its hard to choose because RN is MY FAVORITE JJ album of all time and I love Dangerous to bits as well. There alot more timeless classics on Dangerous than on Rhythm Nation.. songs like Remember the Time, Black or White, Will You Be There, Who Is It, Gone to Soon never get old... Give In To Me, Jam etc
