The thing is D'Angelo's artistic legacy will be bigger than R. Kelly's even with only two albums. They belong to different leagues, in my opinion.

You can't be serious.
D' Angelo is a forgot artist. Just a memory, no offense.

It is true. He will have no legacy, sadly.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yea, it's sad but I guess he didn't have the strength to continue music or maybe lost the passion for it.

I'm sad that he didn't continue, but not many artists release two masterpieces, like D'Angelo did. Certainly, not R. Kelly. To me, two brilliant albums are an artistic legacy.

This is an interesting thread. I've never put the two of them in the same category as their style and sound are different to me however, being that they were two hot R&B black male artists peaking around the same time, I have to say that D'Angelo could have been bigger than R.Kelly only if he made music that appealled to the rap audience. R. Kelly crossed over from R&B to rap and I think that helped a great deal. Its not enough to have only the women or only the men dig your music. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!
RIP Dick Clark, Whitney Houston, Don Cornelius, Heavy D, and Donna Summer.

Two masterpieces? You mean one - Voodoo. R. Kelly has released more than two masterpieces and his impact on R&B is really undeniable but again, D'Angelo is a forgot artist and will only be remembered for his impact on the 'neo-soul' movement for only 5 years. He doesn't have an artistic legacy with just 2 albums under his belt.

I saw D'Angelo in concert once - way back when - I believe it was right after Voodoo was released. So he had the "Brown Sugar" and "Voodoo" music to sing. In my opinion both those cd's were a combination of "neo-soul" and funk.
However, I don't know what type of performance he put on. For real. I think he may have been marketed wrong. I believe he wanted to be a Prince type artist and do all types of music. Instead he was put in this box that he couldn't get out of.
We were all like "huh"? We expected only soul/funk and we got some of everything....which is cool when Prince does it. But it was sooo unexpected based on D'Angelo's two cd's that he didn't get the type of love he probably deserved from the audience.
I say all of that to just say I believe D'Angelo could've achieved more, but he should not be compared to R.Kelly. If he had continued to make music it would've probably been more comparable to what Prince does than what R.Kelly does.

Both great in their own right. Weak thread. Stevie Wonder = EARTH
Prince = WIND Chaka Khan = FIRE Sade = WATER the ELEMENTS of MUSIC

In related news, D'Angelo's 3rd album is currently scheduled for late 2011 or early 2012. I also doubt he would've been bigger than R. Kelly.

Both are talented troubled souls, that have had to fight there inner demons for years...

He just fucked up or choked or something. *shakes head sadly* "I don't think you'd do well in captivity." - random person's comment to me the other day

Depends on how u look at it. I'd take D's 2 released projects over RKelly's entire career output.
