Kanye West : "People Treat Me Like Hitler"

Kanye West had a bizarre onstage outburst at this weekend's The Big Chill Festival, during which he compared himself to Adolf Hitler.

The rapper headlined the Saturday night (August 6) of the event, during which he made a ten minute speech about how he was misunderstood as an artist.

Explaining that he was half an hour late on because he was losing his voice, various sources have reported thatWest went on to say:

There is so much bullshit going on in the music industry right now. Someone needs to make a difference. People treat me like Hitler.

West's comments were booed by the crowd, as he went on to list the people in the industry who he thought had ‘wronged’ him. He also talked about losing out on the Best Video going at the MTV Europe Music Award to Justice and Simian back in 2006. At the time he said his Touch The Sky video should have won because it "cost a million dollars, Pamela Anderson was in it. I was jumping across canyons."

I like Kanye's music alot. He may not be a great rapper per se, but he has continuously released very entertaining albums since he came on to the scene. My favorite hip hop artist hands down.

With that being said, he is the victim of his own actions most of the time and it is unfortunate because if he learned to stop inserting his foot into his mouth, he would attain a higher level of respect for his work. I'm not offended by the comment necessarily (it is a poor analogy), but moreso by his weird tangents he goes off on at times.

He always had a predisposition to overstatements, but he really seems to be on this "woe-is-me" pity party since the whole Taylor Swift incident (which was overblown media garbage btw) and I think people are starting to view him as a caricature of an artist versus someone that actually may have something legitamite to say.

I give the JayZ/Kanye tour a less than 10% chance of surviving before Thanksgiving. He's bound to implode and short circuit the thing before it really gets going.

Haven't we seen this movie before? I mean, he does have a record dropping today. Ah yes, the quintessential Kanye blurb to get headlines right around the time of a new record dropping. Wow!

sigh Oh lawd. He was doing so well too without any outbursts as of late. I like the man's music but damn, him and Chris Brown suffer from the same disease...diarrhea of the mouth.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Don't understand why people are losing there minds over everything he says or does, and when it does it gets taken on literally and used against him its silly. Hey more attention more controversy, more cash for him.

But I've heard much worse that doesnt even get a flicker of an eyelid. What about when racist Morrissey was talking about chinese people being an 'subspecies'? Hmmm that seems to gets ignored. funny that.

Kanye has been saying head shaking, off the wall stuff for so long (became worst after his mother passed) it doesn't surprise me. It makes me go confuse , then disbelief before realizing it's just Kanye nuts and instantly I become bored .

Kanye could take a bold step forward and shoot himself in a bunker, a la' Hitler. Pro: No need for sample clearance. Con: Unable to relish in his own bravado.

He's a dummy, don't listen to him. Why would he even think to say that he is even comparable to Hitler? What has he done in public (or in secret) to even believe that Hitler would be a comparable character to him? I don't mess with Kanye's music, and I will continue to ignore him. Silly mongoose.

I don't think he meant that in a literal sense, people... lol .

Sometimes I feel like I'm one of the few people who actually 'gets' the shit Kanye says, and never understands all the hostility directed at him for his statements.

And to be fair - he isn't exactly wrong in the sense has been on the receiving end of an extraordinary amount of unjustified hostility in recent years. That's a lot of hatred and anger to direct at a music artist who hasn't done jackshit to anyone.

Don't get me wrong, I do sometimes "get" what he means when he says things sometimes, but other times, its almost as if he purposely says things to provoke the media, displaying this outlandish, image of him...in which, using this thread as an example, gets people talking.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

at somepoint, some people should be ignored... Mr. West reached that point a long time ago.

West is a deeply, deeply, deeply insecure man... to the point of it being pathological. I'm not kidding he should think about seeking therapy.

This guy needs to get over himself. Most people don't give a shit about him, but he somehow finds a way to get his name in the news every other day. Kanye and his ego need to go away for a while.

Sometimes it is the media overexaggerating.

However, no question he DOES it alot to himself on purpose.

True. But as I've always said, he's never healed from his mother's passing...which I believe is a major cause of this "outlandish" behavior.

For THAT statement, Kanye West might have f***ed his whole music career for good, never mind the fact that he will NEVER have a career as a Hollywood or Broadway actor.

That is all.

I would love to know who specifically inflates the head of these entertainers? Is it their managers, publicist, entourage WHO? Kanye head is so big it's become nauseating and embarrassing. He really needs to stop crying like a lil bitch!

True.

He could of been just paraphasing the craziness of Hilter and/or it was done on purpose for attention, them tunes aint gonna sell themselves lol. I think most of the stuff from acts like Lady Ga, Jay Z etc that people gasp at is just done on purpose anyway.

On a positive note, Kanye did dedicate his performance to Amy, Michael and Alexander McQueen:

From the Daily Mail in the UK:

"However the 34-year-old did end the show on a positive note by paying tribute to Amy Winehouse, whom he described as 'beautiful' and 'amazing'.

He added: ‘Thank you for protecting your artists that are still here, this is for Alexander McQueen, for Amy, for Michael Jackson, and for all the media - can you lighten up on the artists that are still here?'

West was joined on stage by his three-man backing band and 20 dancers on a stage which also featured Roman-style statues and ballerinas."
