Like A Prayer Appreciation

I wouldn't call myself a hardcore Madonna fan, but Like A Prayer has to be her most artistic piece of work. It's as artsy as pop music can get.

Funk jam:

Prince duet:

This might just be her best work. Masterpiece album. cool

It's a very good album, but I'd say it's only her 4th-best. "Oh Father" is definitely the best song. The "Express Yourself" remix would've improved the album. She should've found room for "Supernatural" somewhere, because it's better than most of the tracks that did make it. Never been a huge fan of "Dear Jessie." Even with Prince included, the best thing I can say about "Love Song" is that it was put to much better use in "Hung Up."

Love "Cherish," "Like a Prayer," and "Till Death Do Us Part." music

I LOVE supernatural! I know most orgers would disagree but I'd choose it over Keep It Together anyday. it's the only song I don't love off LAP!

Till Death Do Us Part is one of my favorites because along with Cherish it was the last of Madonna's more cutesy songs while she was in a more adult transition. It's really cool how she turned her divorce into a really strong pop song.

I also really REALLY love Love Song. I just like how it's so loose and casual in the midst of a really tightly written album.

I love this album, in my opinion it's her best.

What's Supernatural? A B side, an outtake? I'm not an expert in Madonna, can someone tell me?

I believe it was a B side to Cherish.

nod Yep. I agree that it's better than "Keep It Together" (and many others). A remix also appeared on one of those Red Hot + compilations.

Definately one of her more interesting albums. Her voice is decent on this one as well. Keep it Together is one of my fave Madonna tracks, however Love song is one of her worst.

I like the remixes better than the versions on the album.

I really want to love this album as a whole, but it is my least favourite Madonna album. It is worth owning anyways for the strongest songs on the set, which I do agree are artistic and some of the best work of her career. The strongest songs on the album are:

Like a Prayer

Express Yourself

Love Song (I'm being kind, I hated this when I first heard it, now it's tolerable)

Cherish

Oh Father

Dear Jessie

Spanish Eyes

And that last interlude at the end.

"Like A Prayer", "Express Yourself" and "Keep It Together" are preferable in their remixed forms.

I love "Love Song". The spaciness of it -- heart

"Love Song", "Til Death Do Us Part", "Dear Jessie" & "The Act of Contrition" are the "artiest" of the bunch, imo.

"Oh Father" is one of her best ballads.

"Cherish" is one of her best pop tunes.

On the flipside..

"Promise to Try" & "Spanish Eyes" are well written, but something about them keeps the connection at a distance.

"Supernatural" is fun and if included on the album may have given the work a different feel. I would replace "Spanish Eyes" with "Supernatural".

Great album!, oh father & promise to try despite being very pitchy sounds very heartfelt. And is a beautiful song... this to me made Madonna a legend this album

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener
