Katy Perrys Desperate Attempt To MAtch MJs Record

So as many of you already know .katy perry is on track to get her 5th number one song from one album tieing her with Mj as the only artist in history to do so.the problem is that her song has stalled at the number 2 position for quite sometime now and now she and her label are pulling all the stops to make sure the song hits number..

she has remixed it with missy elliot and sending it to digital outlets and radio tomorrow..because of this the sales and airplay from the remix are going to be added to the original tally at the end of the week to force the song to number 1..that talentless girl rihanna pulled a similar stunt with the lipsyncing queen britney spears to force their crappy song s&m to number one

this is unfair on some many levels that billboard is allowing this....its bad enough that getting anumber ones is so easy nowadays compared to when people actually had to go to the store to buy the sigle.but now its like ..oh i can remix a song send it to itunes and radio and BAMMMM..number ! mad

i dont even know if buying the current crappy number 1song will stop this from happen as it seem inevitable at this point

Getting a number has been cheapen so much..i think will be writing a letter to billboard..smh

This type of chart manipulation has been going on for years. People used to criticize Mariah Carey when she would put her cassette singles on sale for 49 cents. Of course most recently Gaga's album was on sale for 99 cents on Amazon (digital download).

Who cares. Katy Perry is talentless. She can match his records, but she will never top the King.

I've never understood why MJ fans are so anal about record sales anyway. shrug

Yeah, but none of her songs are timeless classics.

Honey, these artists pay to get their records played out...at least 1,000,000.00 each.

I know how she can get to number one. She can do a "Party Rock Anthem" remix featuring LMFAO, Pitbull, Ne-Yo, Nicki Minaj, and Lil Wayne.

Since the beginning of time there have been gimmicks and strategies used to get songs and albums certain chart placements. This is hardly desperate - it's smart. Everything is relative.

Records were meant to be broken. Even Mariah had taken down one of Elvis' records!

So if OR when Katy takes down one of Michael's records, so what?!? Michael is a two-time American R&R HOFer and Katy is only 2 career albums deeply. It's no sweat. cool

Actually, I can see "California Gurls" and "Teenage Dream" being remembered for years to come, and I can see "Firework" as a sort of uplifting feel-good positivity anthem being played at high school events and during Independence Day fireworks displays, but "E.T." would have never gotten to number one without Kanye West doing the remix, and her TGIF song was practically set up to be a hit thanks to Rebecca Black paving the way earlier on the internet.

Tes. Just because we may not care for them doesn't mean others won't. Think of all the 60's and 70's super anthems which our parents love love music excited cloud9 but make us want to puke. rolleyes ill barf I can think of a lot of 80's classics I love which frankly are pretty bad and should be left to the trash bin of history.

Quite honestly, you can't tell if something's going to be a timeless classic or not one year after release. So it's kind of a moot point.

Well I can see Teenage Dream and California Gurls becoming classics in some way, but not Firework or E.T.

I don't like Katy Perry at all, but i doubt she is really obsessing over having as many number 1's as M.J

Michael Jackson fans why do you get so insane about sales and number 1's? one day someone might have 7 number 1's on an album we can't see the future. Records are meant to be broken

It's not that serious lol, it's just sales why not let his talent speak and not have to bring records into it?

I dunno. It looks impressive when you can post a bunch of records broken by your favourite artist. Look at the Whitney thread. lol

Sure, Whitney has talent that's all that matter just like M.J

I think Terence Trent is a better singer, msuician & songwriter then Michael and he only had 3 top 40 hits and that doesn't bug me hammer

Frank Zappa is one of the most intelligent, powerful musicians to ever grace the earth and he had not one top 40 hit and idc about that either.

Talent wins in the end, i started getting annoyed with M.J After awhile cause all people do is talk about his records this & records that. And not enough about the thing that actually matters his music....

Did she happen to admit this was an attempt of hers? Or, is it that she could potentially have a 5th number one song from the same album and it's just being taken as something she schemed up to try and accomplish? Just askin'smile

I want her to tie just for the sake of having it happen again. It's been what like 21 years?

I would have honestly never expected it to be Katy Perry though. An amazing achievement nontheless.

A Teenage 'Dream' indeed.

Charts can and have been manipulated. If her record company wants to slap a sticker on her CD saying "yay we beat Thriller".. it means what?

She has a successful album, but no one's saying it comes close to the success of Thriller. Even if she turns every song off this CD into a #1 single, she's not a phenomenon.

What recording artist wouldn't want every song off their album to be a hit?
