Chili's original line up Being a rock guy and seeing Fishbone for the first time, let me just say that I was in no way even remotely prepared for what I was about to experience. Blew me away and I was changed for life (for the better of course).
My roommate (RIP Dexter) and I met and briefly hung with da bone after their set. Only had the EP out at this point. Small talk aside, they were mainly bitching about why their records were stocked in R&B and not the rock section. (Just snatched up copies of Wally Traugott mastered vinyl (EP and 'In your face'). IfI weren't moving this week I'd have already been spinning them).
I loved the fact they Fishbone was always so accessible during their shows (mulling about the crowd pre-show). Seen them 5 or 6 times & Angelo always had time to chat... and John grew into an incredible bassist from early years into their prime. My wife? These are definitely some great moments... ...yeah in the industry there's always the tendency (even now in 2011) to categorize black artists as R&b...it doesn't matter what genre they're doing..or if their music has a lot of more influences....this thing is so racist.... and this is coming from a white girl...but it's pure reality...

I'm loving it.
I haven't heard the amazon version and I haven't seen a reference to it being a different master than the cd or vinyl (apparently it's just as bad)

I'm not sure if these guys know what they are talking about but here is where I read about the Amazon "remaster."

They sound unsure, maybe a subtle difference on the amazon version at best. I've had this 'unmastered' version on repeat, most I've listened to the chili peppers in ages

I heard the new song on the radio today. It's certainly not breaking any new ground, but it's a good [modern melodic] Chili Peppers song.
The new guitar player fits in perfectly. The only thing wrong is that he may not be adding anything new to them, but simply playing appropriate guitar stuff based on previous band members. A lot of people did not like Dave Navarro, but he did bring his own thing into the band, at least.
I look forward to the album. I can't believe it has been 5 years, but it took me a long time to absorb StadiumArcadium (and i still think that is a terrible title ) My Legacy

Agreed. I was mildly shocked to realise that it had been that long and Stadium Arcadium is a terrible title. Of course we should expect some silliness from them but Stadium Arcadium is just dumb.
I had not listened to the last album in a couple of years but over the last two days I gave it another spin and it is much better than I remembered. I think that I just need to get better acquainted with it. I'm not sure why but I only gave it a few spins and then kind of forgot about it. I still think that it would have been stronger as a single disc but I do give them points for ambition.
Does anyone know if those itunes bonus tracks that were added to their WB era albums were ever made available elsewhere? I seem to remember that in order to get them you had to shell out for the whole album.

Yeah , i think his solo work is great btw You can definitely hear his influence in RHCP is huge

Funny this topic just came up, just yesterday I listened through Stadium Arcadium while on the road and couldn't believe I've slept on this record for so long.
They definitely don't get the credit they deserve, great band! One of the few who still keep the Funk alive!

I dug them right up to "B.S.S.M". Once they became "America's sweethearts" and Anthony became a "singer" I got out of them.
But I will admit "Stadium" has some cool moments from Dave Navarro. He fit right in with them and at the same time kept his vibe and sound.
"Freaky Styley" and "Uplift Mofo" are the shit. "Secret Love Song" is straight out of the Funkadelic school.

They will be performing on Live From the Roxy on Tuesday night. Stadium Arcadium has a lot of good quality jams on it. I am ready for the new release, it's been long enough.

yeah I was not thrilled with it initially, then picked up the second disc some time later and listened to it a nonstop for a while. It's really strong, it's just a LOT of music and not anything particularly new or different My Legacy

I wouldn't go so far as to label it racist but rather, ignorance. Steve Kahne (A/R , producer) knew what he had but probably didn't have enough influence to deliver the early bone shipments with promo sheets, life sized cut outs... and promo copies for the store to spin, etc... (what I mean to say is that he was putting his 10,000 hours in with the bands, not distribution channels)...
The EP's came in a box with all the other stuff for the week and that's about it. Stockers knew exactly what to do w/ Pat Benetar, Duran Duran.... but now they see for the first time, 5 black guy's in 1940's suit/ hats & horns on the cover? and 'heard' they're ska, reggae-ish.. (Ignorance considered) What else could they do???. They were unclassifiable until gosh, 'Truth and Soul' IMO.
Their cut 'Modern Industry' which had call letter 'shout outs' to alot of college/ indie stations was a great move & was probably one of the primary reasons they got some initial airplay. Brilliant move...

I have a lot of live footage of RHCP, and this is probably my favorite. My friend just remastered the audio and sent me the DVD. It's much better then this shitty youtube version. Flea is an absolute beast on bass, John's guitar skill's goes without saying, and Anthony Kiedis is one of the greatest frontmen alive. I like their version of Dr.Funkenstein on this gig:

I have been spinning Stadium Arcadium quite a bit over the last week and it is really (finally) starting to grow on me but I think you are correct. I can not point to any of the songs as being terrible but not many of them stand out as being great either.

Did anyone see their gig yesterday? I was too busy and couldn't make my way to the movie theatre. Another reason was, that I have been listening to new album since last Thursday and I have very mixed feelings of it. Josh is doing fine, he is more that I expected, but in general the band is seeking their direction for this moment.
How did it sound live?

Saw them in Moscow years ago. They played near Red Square, I'm sure Lenin was rocking in his Mausoleum:)
I was a fan of their early work (I used to dance like crazy on 'Give it Away' in clubs, and I love 'Under The Bridge' too,) but not so anymore... Californication must be the last album I liked and even, it's so so, and I had a hard time remembering/differentiating from each other all the songs from the 2-CD Stadium Arcadium, they all sounded the same to me somehow, as if it was one big, long uniform sound...

I know exactly what you mean, even though the songs are actually very different. Perhaps it is the unornamented production, I don't know, there is something a bit static about it. My Legacy
