I realize there has been a Cameo V.S The Time thread, this is not meant to be taken serious just a fun thread for these 2 funk nerds

I'm greedy. I can't choose either or. It'll be like asking me to pick between a classic Cadillac or a classic Lincoln when I actually want both.

I'll choose Cameo when the group included Wayne Cooper over The Time. He took them to another level. However, I'll choose Slave also, over both of them

That's a very hard choice but I'll have to go with Cameo because they had so many more songs and albums than The Time. Andy is a four letter word.

The Wayne Cooper years is my absolute favorite era of Cameo. He has one of the best falsettos I've ever heard and can absolutely throwdown with it! When I first heard "Shake Your Pants", I thought it a woman doing all that hollering until I saw them on TV performing it. Andy is a four letter word.

What if you include Morris and Jesse's solo work as Time albums? It kind of even's the playing field. PRINCE: Always and Forever

Yeah i think that's a fair trade! Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Dammitt, you're making it too hard to choose! Andy is a four letter word.

Easy choice for me: | |

But then you have to throw in Charlie Singleton;s solo albums as well, and I love all of them!
I really can't choose. Too close to call. Love 'em both the same. |

Tough call!
Cameo had more versatility, more emphasis on band effort bigger body of work and my weakness, a heap load of WAILING
Time, got one of the BEST material that came out of Prince and delivered it with convincing attitude, so convincing you didn't even pay much attention to the fact that Mr.Day can't sing worth shit.
Hmm...
If I wasn't such a biased sucka for Prince' 81-82 material I would've picked Cameo but I'll settle with a tie

That was a welcome return to funk after the "Word Up" album. I loved the song "Word Up" but I found the songs "Candy" and "Back and Forth" simply decent. They were too mellow and just kinda layed there. Andy is a four letter word.

I agree. As much as I love The Time, I would have to go with Cameo. They were able to accomplish more than The Time ever did. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Interesting Larry Blackmon wore the same white outfit in You Make Me Work and this video which i used to dig a lot

I would only give Cameo a slight edge because of more material but the Time still packs a nasty punch live. I would give The Time the edge as individual producers although Larry did a great job with the two Cashflow albums which i would love to get my hands on. Don't laugh at my funk

Aw man, I LOVE "Candy" (...and "Back And Forth"). It probably helps that I saw them in concert (my 2nd of 3 times seeing them live) when that album dropped, and it was a phenomenal show. I was particularly impressed with the choreography of Debbie Allen that corresponded with each song. Plus, I have this image from the (Santa Monica, CA) show branded in my mind from when they played "Candy": I looked around the audience, and I saw all races, Black, White, Asian, Hispanic... everybody smiling and grooving to the song (LeVar Burton & Magic Johnson were in the audience too). It was a beautiful moment that I'll always associate with "Candy". It was a time when the song was brand new, and it was wonderful to hear & see them playing it live.
I understand & respect your issue with a song's tempo though.

"Candy" is so damn epic. They did a few other good songs too like "Word Up", but honestly I think that in general, The Time has the better catalog so I have to give the award to them.
I can still remember one summer when they played the full version of "777" on the radio and, no lie, I got goosebumps on my arms, it sounded so good to me. After that I made it my mission to get "What Time Is It" . "I don't think you'd do well in captivity." - random person's comment to me the other day

This is a tough one but if you force me to choose,I'll have to pick Cameo They simply had more material.I really only love the first two Time albums, the other two I can do without. With Cameo,I pretty much like all of their albums from 1979-1986.

Yeah, that's a tight set with their classic horn sound. Also with Otis Redding Jr. throwing some axxe chops in the mix. And Larry would produce The Reddings later.
I remember reading a "thank you" note to Cameo in the liner notes of an earlier Reddings album as well. At that time both groups were active in the Georgia area.
some other productions
