Best Jermaine Jackson album?

[img:$uid]http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/_/23108559/Jermaine+Jackson+76_Motown1.jpg[/img:$uid]

Les't stop bashin Jermaine for a little (or at least just for this topic biggrin ) and let's talk about his music. From 1972 to 1991, he released 13 albums (and at least three that were shelved at the last minute.) Some sold better than others, some went platinum, even multi-platinum, some went gold and one didn't even chart, but they all had gems on them (even the one that didn't chart, it may have had one of his more beautiful recordings in "Castles of Sands".)

72 Jermaine

73 Come Into My Life

76 My Name Is Jermaine

77 Feel The Fire

78 Frontiers

79 Let's Get Serious

80 Jermaine

81 I Like Your Style

82 Let Me Tickle Your Fancy

84 Jermaine Jackson

86 Precious Moments

89 Don't Take It Personel

91 You Said

his first single released in 72

his last single from 1992

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Ranking them might be a challenge, haha. I don't have every album of his as they're so difficult to find on CD, but I especially love the Let's Get Serious (1979) to Dynamite/Jermaine Jackson (1984) period. But even all of the albums around them, I quite like.

So yeah... LGS gets my vote I guess, if I have to choose. smile

Some of Jermaine's albums have never made it to CD, and they're all out of print now (at least in the US).

Nope, that's the album where Arista was really trying to "cross over" Jermaine, the material on that album is too pop for my taste LBC.

I can see Jermaine in an A&R meeting back in the day with all the execs discussing a future title for his project.

Exec: So Jermaine, came up with any title yet? ["another exec is crossing his fingers hoping he won't choose Jermaine again!"]

Jermaine: Alright, I been thinkinh of this one all last night ... JERMAINE JACKSON!! huh, huh?

Exec: But you already have 3 records with "Jermaine" in the title?

Jermaine: Had 3, had ... now I got four. See whene I'm at with mine.

Exec: Whatever nigha, just make us some money.

Jermaine: I beg your pardon?

Exec: Huh, I said great choice, go get em pal ...

^^Diana Ross has more than one album called "Diana" and "Ross". The Gap Band has two self titled LP's and Peter Gabriel has 3 or 4 self titled albums.

I don't have any of his albums (just a 'best of' CD) but I think his 1984 album was pretty good....you know, the album that contains the singles "Dynamite","Do What You Do" and that excellent duet with Michael "Tell Me I'm Not Dreamin".I'm gonna look for that album on my next vinyl dig wink

Ok I'm not bashing. Honestly. I'm just relieved to see a non-greasy pic of the man. Aah but it is slightly marred by that Mary Wilson wig.

Onward.
