Appreciation for Madonna's 'Music' album

[img:$uid]http://www.madonna-forums.com/cd-covers/madonna-music-album-cd-cover.jpg[/img:$uid]

Though I've had this album since 2000 and used to play it often then, I didn't play it much since cause I was too caught up with the albums of hers that came after. I put on some of the non released tracks tonight, and they have aged so well, like fine wine! I truly believe she creatively peaked in her 40's (counting Ray of Light too, she was almost 40)

I forgot how good that song was though I used to play it a lot in 2000/2001, I wanted to make a mashup of that and MJ's Bad lol I can really relate to the lyrics more today, especially cause of the double standards women have to face, or anyone that's oppressed.

amazing album. (of course). i remember going to the midnight sale for this album. and the memories of that year. this is one of those "headphone" albums for me. going to put this one on now!!!

dark dance meloncoly a bit futuristic sounding... solid all the way through. even if she's singing,
"i like to sing-y sing-y sing-y"

I love the album artwork for this as well with those rhinestones in the air, and those blue jeans she had on. I bought the album a few months after it came out, cause I wasn't feeling it right away upon first listen, but then when it grew on me, I got it around Christmas time and associate it with the holidays in 2000.

love love love

Always in my top three Madonna albums, I just adore music.

There isn't a single track on this album I don't love.

It's more fun than Ray of Light, but it still has that trance like effect to it.

Nobody's perfect is maybe my favorite track off of it, I always get lost in it.

The singles are so perfect and still sound fresh.

And all the songs coming alive sounded amazing on her DWT.

I JUST LOVE THIS ERA!

She was still making great videos too!

Favorite songs from this album: Music,Impressive Instant,Gone,What It Feels Like For A Girl, and the epic-sounding Paradise (Not For Me)

This album is edgy and adventurous with some really interesting twists and turns. My only complaint is that the album starts off with three explosive dance tracks then it becomes too mellow. Most of the remaining songs are midtempo (a problem that also surfaced on the next album American Life).

I love this album. I remember that it leaked a month b4 the release date and it was the first Madonna album that that happened 2. I bought the official album in the day it was released and I will still so into that, even after a month listening back 2 back. It's my favorite M's album from the 00's.

Impressive Instant should have been a single.

a little bit off-topic, but I just watched a video where Madonna talks about a remix album called "Veronica Electronica" after the album ROL. I remember that there was rumoured outtake with this name. She said in the interview that she was waiting 4 W. Orbit 2 finish some works with other artists 2 go further with this project. Anyone knows more information about it?

I remember this project. It was going to be released sometime in 1999 but I guess it was cancelled. It was a remix album but in addition to remixes,it was gonna include the original, unreleased 10 minute + version of the song "Ray Of Light".The album version was edited down.Back then,I was really looking forward to this project.

I think American Life did okay with going from fast songs to slow songs, remember Mother & Father and Die Another Day towards the end?

I'm glad it sold 3 million copies though I don't think it stayed at the top for too many weeks from what I recall, and I was worrying that her popularity was going down, but I didn't have a thing to worry about. Plus, though I've seen her being appreciated in NYC, I've heard from many fans that she's not really on the radio in the US with newer work, but it's different up north. Madonna has always been big and respected here and her singles charted well for the rest of the decade, and the Confessions singles were huge on radio.

I agree Nobody's Perfect is great, wish it was a single. I caught the Drowned World tour on TV a couple of times back then but wasn't feeling it too much. I think maybe I'll embrace nowaday, my music taste has widened after all, but then again, I feel Madonna had her concert performance peak from the Virgin Tour through the Girlie Show. I loved the Confessions stage set and attended Sticky & Sweet, but old Madonna is the best when it comes to concerts, JMO.

^ I like that era, the album has some of her best songs and videos, but as a whole album, I'm selective with it though I like the overall mood/groove.

I loved and love that album

A perfect sequel to the spiritual/serious Ray of Light. An earthy album mixing both organic and electronic music, dance jams and also guitar-oriented ballads. And I love the puns against the whole "female singer/songwriter" genre of the 96-2001 era, lol, starting with the front cover. She was obvioulsy mocking that movement and, at the same time, trying to get some $ out of it as well...

The only weak song for me was Nobody's Perfect, too slow... but the rest of the album was stellar. And the title-track was THE jam of 2000... I seriously think that Gone is her most underrated ballad, ever...

American Life was a similar album but bleaker and with lesser material, and I don't know why, but the electroclash thing sounded cheap. That's why I don't care for that album. It's Madonna following the blueprint of a previous album, something that she never did before, not even with Like a Virgin-True Blue, which were reasonably different albums if you think about it...

Anyway, I can't believe Music is already 11 years old eek...omg time flies! which is both sad and smile

I agree, and Madonna wanted this song to be a single, too. However,Warners felt that "Amazing" would be a better single.Madonna disagreed and she removed "Amazing" from her Drowned World tour setlist. As a result, neither song was released as a single, lol.

How the fuck did I not know about this!?!?!

I think she first mentioned it in a 1998 Billboard magazine interview, right around the time when ROL was released.'Veronica Electronica' was also going to be her alter ego for the Ray Of Light tour, which never happened.

I've seen this bootleg in various places.I wonder if this is the 'real' tracklist? Madonna mentioned that it would contain the original,un-edited 10-minute+ version of "Ray Of Light",which isn't on this particular CD.

I didn't realize Madonna was mocking singer-songwriters of the late 90's, especially not when she signed Alanis to Maverick, that's hilarious! But then again, I know she's not a unique guitar player though she alright I guess cause it goes well with her Music and American Life tracks and those late 90's artists could outshine her with their playing, so now I get it lol

Amazing is such a good song, I liked it then, but it's even better now and has aged well, ahead of it's time. It used to remind me of Beautiful Stranger, but now I like it better.

I remember being in love with this album when it came out. Haven't listened to it as a whole in a long time.

It's all over the place, but its length works in favor of the disjointed feeling. Naming the album Music -- there's nothing really meaningful behind it really, right? The album feels like a collection of songs without a real concept. Just some tunes that she (and her collaborators) put together.

The contrast of her image with the sound was pretty interesting. It was the most electronic (read: synthetic) she had gone up til that junction of her career, but dressed in Americana (read: organic) style clothing.

Can't say it's in the top five, but it does have one of my favorite ballads -- "Paradise (Not for Me)".

Paradise is my least favourite on there sad

I wondered what made her name the album Music. The diversity? Using guitars? Thinking the market then was oversaturated with too much teen pop and r&B/dance music and taking a different approach with her next effort, referring to Music as "real music"? LOL I do hear a throwback to the 80's in Music and What It Feels Like For a Girl, but the rest sounded adult contemporary.

There are better songs on the album, but it's unlike anything Madonna's done before or since so it gets a thumbs up from me.
