no..Dangerous was solid...name another performer that had a solid album as much as Dangerous at that time?

Really? lol iknow that's a joke i can name a lot

Guns N Roses- Use Your Illusion 1&2

Nirvana- Nevermind

Terrecne Trent D'arby- Symphony Or Damn

Pearl Jam- Ten

U2- Achtung Baby

Red Hot chili Peppers- Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magic

Screamadelica- Primal Scream

Metallica- Metallica

Tribe Called Quest- Low End Theory

Soundgarden- Badmotorfinger

Talk Talk- laughing Stock

R.E.M- Out Of Time

Crowded House- Woodface

Smashing Pumpkins- Gish

Queen- innuendo

All those albums kill Dangerous, and if you mean just solo performers Terences album had way more abition then Dangerous. And was way better written & performed.

really?? in what way these album "kill" dangerous ..its all a matter of preference...how many people even remember those albums today?? yet almost all the songs on dangerous are still timeless classics

Michael was way too busy following trends. Besides, Dangerous was released two years too late. The New Jack Swing period was dying, and Nevermind knocking Dangerous off the top of the charts was the death of New Jack Swing.

biggrin i'm not sure about the new jack thing... i always hear Nevermind killed hair metal, now new jack swing, Nevermind was a new movement. But it didn't murder other genres like people believe. There where some new Jack Swing songs doing well in 92 & 93 hell even some hair metal songs still charted on the billboard hot 100. Hair Metal & New Jack where relatively short lived dramas as was Grunge lol

The only grunge artists still successful today is Pearl Jam, R. Kelly is the only New Jack Swinger who is still relevant honestly... and he is far from what he used to be confused

How long did Grunge last? NJS had a 8 year run from 1987-1994

the New Jack Swing and Hip Hop Soul movements were still strong as ever in 1991 lol Nevermind didn't kill NJS. NJS's decline started in '94

You know what?

Poo. hmph!

Here we go again.... idc how many it sold. My point was these where strong sellers and that psycho MJ fan acted like none of these albums where being rememberd.

Once again another reason MJ fans drive me nuts lol, it's all sells & records. Remember i told you Stevie Wonder had 33 top 10 hits but everyone talk's about his talent first and the hits are teh last thing on the tongue. MJ all i hear about is the stats who gives a fuck?

I'm an MJ fan but a realist MJ fan he wasn't the greatest dancer in the world, nor the greatest singer, and he is not in the top 10 greatest of all time.

But again when people mention Pearl Jam, U2, Stevie, Tribe Called Quest, RHCP it's because of the great songs and albums. Not the sells MJ all i hear is about his sales and the moon walk. And he was not the first to do the moon walk either... street performers where doing stuff like it for years.

Woah, woah. He definitely was in the running for greatest dancer. One of the greatest singers ever. And top ten in my all-time best.

I'm not sure if you've spoken to any of the MJ fans who actually like to talk about the music. The "We must defend MJ at all costs" are like that but the fans who actually appreciate and discuss the music aren't. Hell, you could talk to me, Militant, and Timmy84 anytime lol

I'm an MJ fan but a realist MJ fan he wasn't the greatest dancer in the world, nor the greatest singer, and he is not in the top 10 greatest of all time.

It's a matter of opinion. For example I think Michael was one of the best dancer, one of the best singers, and he's in my personal top 5

People don't talk about the music because everything else, unfortunately overshadowed it.

There's songs in the '80s that only did modest and yet the way they're being played constantly like "I Stopped the World (And Melt With You)" and "What I Like About You", you think they were #1 in their day. lol But you're right, there's a lot of classics that never made #1. Again that tells you how much of a not so huge deal this is.

Britney is the perfect example for this. The majority of her most popular material never made it to #1. Oops!...I Did It Again, I'm A Slave 4 U, Toxic, Everytime, and Gimme More never topped the Hot 100 while stuff like 3 and Hold It Against Me did.

Now you tell me which are more classic, the former or latter?

nod

Britney is a good example of how much easier it is to get a #1 in the itunes era.

Honey, these artists pay to get their records played out...at least 1,000,000.00 each.

Actually, I can see "California Gurls" and "Teenage Dream" being remembered for years to come, and I can see "Firework" as a sort of uplifting feel-good positivity anthem being played at high school events and during Independence Day fireworks displays, but "E.T." would have never gotten to number one without Kanye West doing the remix, and her TGIF song was practically set up to be a hit thanks to Rebecca Black paving the way earlier on the internet.

Cali Girls and Teenage Dream are good songs.

How long did Grunge last? NJS had a 8 year run from 1987-1994

Well Grunge was prevalent in the underground from at least 1984, with bands like Green River which includedn Mark Arm (who later formed Mudhoney) and Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament. Stone and Jeff went on to form Mother Love Bone with Andrew Wood who were popular around '87 or '88 in the underground rock scene (along with Nirvana with their debut album Bleach) and other grunge bands like Tad, but Andrew Wood died of an overdose in 1990.

At this point, Stone and Jeff formed Pearl Jam with Eddie Vedder and the commercial success happened in 1991 alongside Nirvana with "Nevermind" and grunge was a serious commercial force between those two bands, and also Alice in Chains.

Kurt's death put the whole scene into a downward spiral in '94 but I'd say grunge wasn't really "dead" until Layne Staley died in '96. At that point it was basically over. People who don't really know a lot about grunge tend to think it "started" in '91 with Nevermind and ended in '94 when Kurt died, but that's not really the case.

Personally, I'd say as a really valid movement and scene it would be between '89 and '96, so that's a solid 7 year run. By '96, it was all about Britpop bands like Blur and Oasis, and industrial/goth bands like Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson.

You should see some of the comments on Billboard.com. She's being called the Queen of Pop, better than Michael Jackson, Madonna, Elvis, Aretha Franklin, a legend, etc, all for a record she hasn't broken yet. neutral
