advocating that black people wear their hair natural does NOT make her a racist by any means. some PEOPLE, i swear! the Org repeatedly shows me how truly ignorant we about what racism really is.

I dont think her statement is homophobic. I see effeminate men and butch women who are married to the opposite sex and I may question their sexuality but if the other person is okay with it, then let it be. You mean to tell me if you saw a flaming Queen who is married to a woman or a big ole Dyke who is married to a man, you wouldn't think anything of it?

There's a difference. "Race" can't really be disguised. No one really knows if someone is homosexual or straight unless it is advertised. I've been around some gay people that aren't of the "flaming" or "Girlfriend!" type, and you wouldn't know by looking at them or how they act, just like you can't tell a "straight" person by looking at them. There's homosexuality in other animals, you can't tell tell the difference. In the same way, you can't label a guy as "homo" just because they don't like sports or don't act like a "real man" (whatever that means lol ), nor a woman as a lesbian because she's athletic and doesn't wear makeup or dresses. Gender roles are taught, just like race is taught, and culture is also. People like to label stuff, and if it don't fit the label, then it is something else. If a black person speaks proper english instead of ebonics or a hispanic person doesn't know spanish and doesn't have an accent, then he/she is a "wannabe white". What does that mean? All white people don't speak the same, nor do they all use "proper" english. As far as the natural hair goes, many white people (and other races) don't wear wear theirs natural either and get perms and dyes too. Even getting a haircut or shaving is not natural. Natural would be just letting it grow out and not doing anything to it like William Lee Golden of the Oak Ridge Boys. razz Wearing makeup is not natural. I don't know of any animal being born with it on, and Jill does wear makeup. lol If she wears perfume and uses deodorant, then that's chemicals and artificial, and it is used to disguise. If she buys the average food at the supermarkets/restaurants, then it definitely is not natural. It's all hormones, steroids, chemicals, modificated Monsanto veggies, etc.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Damn that comment just made me laugh but to answer your question yes, I suppose i would. I think i'm actually more upset about her disgust for interracial marriages since i'm in one myself. To each his own I suppose. I just wish people were more open minded. When I go to the salon I have to sit there and listen to people slag off white people and interracial couples which is really annoying. Since Jill is a public figure who could also be a role model for young people I just wish she would chose her words more wisely.

I hate all these stereotypes. You cannot tell by looking at someone what their sexuality is. There are some men who are effeminate who are totally straight and there are some women who are masculine and tomboys who are straight. Conversely, there are some gay men who are masculine and some lesbians who are femme. Open up your mind!

I love football, but that doesn't make me a lesbian.

You know what? Fuck Jill Scott.....literally [I really do want to biggrin ], But she is racist if you ask me. I've heard her say stuff like that before, so I don't buy her music. The whole "gay" topic she mentioned is true though...look at Liza Minnelli, Star Jones, Terry McMillan, Jackée Harry {& Maybe Monique}, They have all been married to gay dudes......

giggle

I like Jill Scott! Because she tells the truth in her music & in real life. Every album she has made is about what she is going through @ the time. I rather an artist say what's on there mine then to be fake & phoney like other artist I won't name. She made a valid point. Everybody I know has asked those questions...By the way congrats to her on her first number #1 debut. U r hot & on fire Jill Scott!!!!!!

Jill tweets a lot, it seems, about the obstacles many black women face in having sustained, fulfilling relationships with black men.

Her comments about black men dating non-black women or engaging in secret, gay behavior while dating black women articulate very plainly what a lot of black women deal with or observe.

I think it's a shame that our marketplace endorses so little of what black women have to say, if it's not coming from, say, an Oprah who talks only about things that will mollify society at large.

All I got to say is.. I LOVE Jill Scott and she is as real as it gets from her music all the way to her as a person. Regardless if you agree or not you cant blame her for being real. We have alot of celebrities which I will not named that are fake and put up a front. At least she is expressing how she really feels about issues regardless if you agree or not. I didnt see anything controversial about. It her HER tweet and she can say what she wants.

She isnt ranting, cussing or fighting childishly over tweeter like alot of immature celebs. She poses mind stimulating questions and concerns to receive opinionated insight which seems to have work based on looking at this thread. lol
