R.E.M. - Out of Time [1991] This year marks the 20th anniversary of R.E.M.'s Out of Time. A huge commercial success (spearheaded by lead single "Losing My Religion"), the album would become the band's big breakthrough, topping the charts in both the US and UK. While most fans would probably point to the follow-up Automatic for the People, this is my favorite R.E.M. record. Yep, I even like "Shiny Happy People" (and in truth I like it a lot).
I'm glad I tracked down the DVD-Audio version. It's a joy to hear this great album in 5.1 surround sound.
Give it up for Out of Time!

Me In Honey is one of my favorite R.E.M songs! and Endgame...... what an incredible song! of course Loosing My Religion & Shiny Happy People made me want the album. But the non single tracks are the true standouts.... i miss R.E.M there new album was so-so to me Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

I'm with you on "Me in Honey." At the risk of too much Kate Pierson, I think it should've been a single instead of "Radio Song." Regardless, I love this album the most because all the album tracks are great. It's all highs and no lows. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis | |

God, I hated the '90s. But THIS is one of the few bright spots! Such great memories attached to this CD.
Some fans now chalk up Out of Time to R.E.M.'s near or complete "selling out." If this was the product of selling out, I'm glad they did it.
