IMO, "Emotions" is her strongest album to date.

The lambs will slay me and the anti hip hop crowd will disagree - but the first album of hers i LIKED was the "Glitter" soundtrack and the first (and only) album i LOVED by her was 2009 - "Memoris of an Imperfect Angel."

I think her 2009 release is where to start! and then go backward - the first four singles, all four from her debut album, plus a couple of the album tracks (You Need Me, Prisoner) - are 100% classics, and that would be the only other album of hers i would recommend. Overall, though, that album is still kind of a bore. Weighed down with too many syrupy ballads.

Skip "Emotions," "Music Box," and "Daydream" (and "Butterfly") unless your Ambien prescription ran out.

I like her self titled debut cd best. If you're going to adventure into her recordings, I would just take it song by song. Some albums have good and bad songs. All, of course, dependent upon your taste and only yours:) I like some of her upbeat songs and some of her ballads. These are some of my faves:

  1. Alone In Love
  2. Crybaby
  3. Honey
  4. I Don't Wanna' Cry
  5. I'm That Chick
  6. It's Like That
  7. Melt Away
  8. Migrate
  9. Prisoner
  10. Someday - Love the New 12" Jackswing remix of this song!
  11. Standing O

Ultimately it depends on your personal taste.

If the stuff you heard by her and liked, kinda had a hip-hop beat or something to it, then try her later work; I'd say from about "Butterfly", on.

If the stuff you liked by her sounded more along the lines of adult contemporary pop/easy listening type stuff, then you want to go with the early stuff; try "Daydream" and everything released before it.

I like Butterfly the best, it's mid way between her more AC early albums and her newer hip hop work, it's also her most personal album. Daydream would also be a good one, it has her best singles.

I LOVE this album also (minus "The Beautiful Ones"). I still listen to it on a regular basis.

As a fan of Mimi since she first came on the scene music love fallinluv excited cloud9 , I agree Butterfly is her strongest album. I then follow that up with The Emancipation of Mimi, followed by Daydream, then her self-titled debut album, and then Glitter. It sucks that her movie was a complete crapfest, because it really sank that album/soundtrack. It's actually her most underrated album, and it shows her versatility as a true R&B/dance singer.

But if you like dance tracks, then I certainly suggest picking up her Remixes album. I highly recommend her club tracks, especially "Anytime You Need A Friend", plus the So So Def remix of "Always Be My Baby".

BTW, it appears the Twitterverse and Hollywood is all abuzz about Mariah getting back into shape post-childbirth.

IMO, the remixes is where Mariah ALWAYS shines the brightest vs the albums. That's where her versatility and the strength/power of her voice is most obvious to me. Especially if you like club/house music. Her C+C remixes were cloud9

I think this is her best vocal performance on any track, especially the scattin' at the end. Shiiiiiitttt! mushy I can't think of any singer since who could hold a candle to this.

But this is my all time favorite remix love

highfive I have almost all her remixes but only 2 or 3 albums. For me, the first few albums followed the pop formula too much. After I heard her remixes I figured out that the albums weren't really her vision and were being pushed by her husband/Sony. I liked that she used the remixes to kinda rebel and show us her REAL voice.

I can totally see her in the studio bored to tears singing shit like Hero and thinking "Just for this I'ma put ODB on my next single, just wait." wink

Yeah this. I would add Glitter to it as well minus a couple of the hip hop

collabos on it. I would say Daydream was my favorite.

I can too. Especially for her first 2 or 3 albums. She wanted her some New Jack Swing at the time when her first 2 albums came out and Tommy wouldn't let it happen. You can definitely tell when she left his ass and started doing albums like Butterfly and Rainbow.
