Shout out to the Stylistics, especially for "Betcha By Golly Wow." Could Prince have chosen a better song to cover?

Great choices ladies, My favorite is Stop, Look, Listen (To Your Heart) from the debut album The Stylistics. That song is classic soul done right.
Russell Thompkins Jr.is my favorite falsetto singer. Brotha's falsetto is so even-toned and smooth.

Maaan, I need Ol' school music education "shakes head" I thought all the time that "Stop, Look, Listen(To Your Heart)" was originaly by Donna Summer. Toni Braxton sampled the song 4 her tight jam "You've Been Wrong" which features her sistas in the backround vox. [This message was edited Wed Feb 12 9:19:15 PST 2003 by Harlepolis]

I LOVE LOVE LOVE The Stylistics. I saw them a couple of years ago, and I'm not sure if there's only one or two original members left, nonetheless it was a magnificent show. The falsetto is heart grabbing and soul stirring.
Ok, here are my fave songs: Hurry Up This Way Again "I never know when I'm going to see you again. I can't make no plans, I'll just see you whenever I can. Whenever you're with him, who's loving me? Nobody, Hurry up this way again." (love the lyrics!!) Stop, Look, Listen to Your Heart People Make the World Go Round You Make Me Feel Brand New Betcha By Golly Wow Break Up to Make Up You're A Big Girl Now "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!
"It's just my imagination, once again running away with me."

(LOL)... funny you say that you thought that that Stylistics song was by Donna Summer, cause there was a rumor going around in the 70's that she was a man.

It's a little more uptempo than the Stylistics' version.

No,Donna did not cover The Stylistic's "Stop,Look,Listen (To Your Heart)".She does have a 1983 song called "Stop,Look,Listen" but it is a totally different song. Her song appears on her album 'She Works Hard For The Money'. But,the Stylistics song "Stop,Look,Listen (To Your Heart)" (1971) is my favorite Stylistics song too.The vocals are heavenly, and that melody kills me everytime. It was covered by Patti Austin in 1981.

It is absolutely stunning from beginning to end.I love the way it includes the long, long version of "People Make The World Go Round". I would also recommend their second album 'Round 2'(1972),which includes a kickass remake of the Carol King classic "It's Too Late".This track segues into the haunting "Children Of The Night",it will give you chills when you hear it.Soul music at it's BEST!!!

My eyes may have deceived me, but I thought The Stylistics have a box set. I thought I saw it at Tower. Then again maybe not and it was just a dream. If they don't have one, I think the record company should get on it and make one, cuz I would definitely invest in that. "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

Since this thread I've been thinking about going to Tower to look for a compilation, too. Guess I could start with towerecords.com. [This message was edited Thu Feb 13 10:07:13 PST 2003 by UptownDeb]
