Since February 25, 2005. The site was independent for over 2 years until they were brought out by Google.

Yeah, I remember it before Google snagged it. When I heard they were about to I was super-pissed, thinking it was going to change alot, that it spelled the end of YouTube as we know it...it's pretty much the same though except for all the annoying ads...plus it seems like a lot of cool music performances suddenly vanished soon after they acquired it...but there's still a lot of stuff left so...

Does MTV even play music videos anymore? It's all about reality tv. Youtube is where most people go to watch videos now.

Unless you want Justin Beiber and Rebecca Black to win every award, I think Youtube holding their own Music Video Awards is a bad idea.
