I remember this day. It was the beginning of a new era.
Though things have changed quite a bit, yes?

MTV is so far gone from what it started out as that it can't even be bothered to acknowledge the past 30 years! They left it up to VH-1 to do that for them. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

^^^VH1 changed long ago too. It was originally started by MTV for light rock & adult contemporary acts. You probably won't see Peter Cetera, Kenny Rogers, Kenny G, or Charlene on there today. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Who are you telling?!? Five years earlier, MTV didn't even wanted to acknowledge their 25th anniversary! ViaCON forced VH-1 to celebrated it instead.

I wish some uber-rich dork would just buy MTV and completely rehaul it and make it back into what it was.
Yes, I know that'll never happen. "I don't think you'd do well in captivity." - random person's comment to me the other day

There is nothing to celebrate. MTV died a over a decade ago..

MTV management should write a book on "how to fuck up a global brand". .

Here's what I find ironic. While MTV, did not celebrate the aniversary, VH1 did....

How the mighty have fallen....
Sad to see what they've become today. "And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ
"Baby, that was much too fast"...Goodnight dear sweet Prince. I'll love you always

Oh how the mighty have fallen! If they were struggling with their ratings more, I think they would have more shame. But since their reality shows are doing well for their targeted demographic they don't seem to care.
When they usually get the complaint of not showing actual music videos they always point out they still show videos on their sister/affiliated networks. Besides, with YT, Vevo, and the like, they've become obsolete now anyway.
