Falco ~ Auf Der Flucht

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

ahhh nice. A real gem. This early Falco stuff is really excellent; he is definitely an underrated new wave/pop artist IMHO.

Love Zuviel Hitze and of course Der Kommissar

Der Kommissar

Many people don't know Falco did this originally in German, and only know the English remake by a group named After The Fire.

I know, it's a shame. But the After the Fire version was a Top 5 hit in the US and Falco's didn't make much of a commercial impact, so it's understandable.

I much prefer Falco's original, although I think ATF did a nice job with it.

I used to listen to Falco a lot in the 80's. One of my favorites was the 10 minute version of The Sound Of Musik that was on the maxi single.

During the electrofunk/boogie funk era of R&B, approximately 1982 to late 1986,

Falco was one the best white imitators/users of electrofunk style synth pop.

He was a Justin Timberlake of that period. There is a lot more of that white

"blue-eyed" electrofunkish pop from Hall & Oates and European groups/soloists

than most people have discovered or remembered.

I have "Auf Der Flucht" in an Itunes list where its beat pattern is easily compatible

to follow "Papa Don't Preach" and to precede "Someone For Me" by Whitney Houston (produced by Jermaine Jackson and sounds quite similar to Jermaine's "Let Me Tickle Your Fancy")

In the early/mid 80s there was a lot of funk-ish music crossing from the R&B chart to the US and, more frequently, the UK pop charts and vice-versa.

David Bowie's "Lets Dance" got to # 14 on the US R&B chart in 1983.

U.S. R&B/Funk diva Melba Moore had her "Love's Comin At Ya" reached #15 on the UK pop chart in 1982 while it did not appear on the US pop chart. These examples are only few of dozens of examples. A few more examples, the US R&B Chart: "Shock the Monkey", "She Blinded Me with Science" "Out of Touch."

You may find that it is worth the time to take a look and listen at the song lists thathave been posted to Itunes Ping that meld together rhythmically & stylisticallycompatible early/mid 80s R&B/funk songs and early/mid 80s synth pop/new wavesongs. Lots of music that was either forgotten or not ever learnedof but was very enjoyable or would be very enjoyable if it was rediscovered or discovered for the 1st time by people that enjoy this type of music.

People like you?

I have researched these music categories for the past 9 yearsand I have rediscovered tunes I had forgotten about or I discoverednew tunes that totally deserved the time it took to discover them.In Itunes Store or Itunes Ping if you use the search terms "electrofunk" (as a single word) or "80s funk" the search result shall produce several lists that have "electrofunk" or "80s funk" in the playlist name in the "Playlist" category at the low left corner of the search result.

Click on the "more" link and once you have opened the next page that hasall of the Playlist search results for "electrofunk" or "80s funk",you'll quickly find a bunch of lists that use the title "Ebony & Ivory Electrofunk".

These lists have songs that (1) you may have heard before and enjoyed but forgotten or (2) songs that you may enjoy now but you have not heard before. These lists also include album cuts that were not released as singles and songs from lesser known artists such as Fatback, Kashif, Laid Back, D Train, Boys Don't Cry, and Dynasty.
