The ArchAndroid is a fantastic album. I do think it's one of those albums people will come back to in years to come and say 'yeah thats in important record. It's a shame it's not shifted more in sales, although after her Glastonbury performance in England, and the fact it was brodcast on bbc, made a few more thousand people over here go out and buy it. That and the fact that she's touring it.

The only problem I have with the album, is an aesthetic one, and it's that it should have been released as a two-disc set. Essentially you have two Suites tagged together on one disc which plays a bit with the consistency, on top of the fact that it's a concept album. Of course making it two discs means the production costs would run over it's budget and that was obviously beyoned Janelle Monnae's control.

Major songs from the album (imo) are 'Faster, Locked Inside, Cold War, Tightrope, Oh Maker, Mushrooms & Roses and Wondaland. They are all superbly crafted tracks and her voice is great.

Eh, you've got the overture to mark the beginning of the second suite, I don't think that breaking it into two discs was necessary.

Maybe after all four parts are issued there will be some kind of boxed set released?

Yeah I agree rialb! A double album would've been a little overboard. It works perfect as a two-for-one, for the simple fact that the suites are completely contrasts from each other.

I wonder how she's gonna play the next and final suite in the series? Will it be another EP as the first or will she really go in and do a long, ambitious, sprawling suite? Either way, I reckon it'll be another banger! thumbs up!

Yeah, it's just a personal pet peeve of mine. Would love all four parts in one boxset.

Janelle Monae's debut album The ArchAndroid has received critical acclaim. It has been cited as one of the best albums of 2010, and has also produced what has been called one of the best singles of 2010, Tightrope. The album also dabbles in a wide variety of genres the make it quite an exciting piece of work. My question is, will The ArchAndroid be considered a classic in the future, much like Thriller, What's Going On, and Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band? Or will it fade into the dust along with the other ordinary albums of today? Discuss.

I believe it is one of the best albums i have heard in a loooong time. But it will never become a classic, its too niche. Maybe if Janelle becomes a mega star later on....but that is doubtfull....

You must have never seen her live lol .... she easily shits on this generation of vocalists and being a performer without having to move around on stage.

Kanye is one of the best hip hop producers in the game. Late Registration is a classic. Adele is a phenomenal vocalist and I love her straight up approach. P!nk is an unsung hero and definitely should be the talk of the town instead of some Judas girl.

When I said that she didn't do a great job of fulfilling her promise I was referring to her failure to reach a wider audience.

I like Pink too but why do you have to tear Gaga down to build Pink up? If it makes you feel any better Pink is much more popular than Lady Gaga in Australia.

Thats not her fault that she failed to reach a larger audience. Times have changed and a big boned woman singing about life with a soulful jazz presence is not gonna touch people who are more interested in dance music or watching a Beyonce. She is highly critically acclaimed and is known as black music royalty here in the States.

I don't tear down anybody to promote someone else. I simply wish that people were talking and praising P!nk as much as the Bad Whoremance girl. Take it down a peg! P!nk is a stadium artist, Gaga will NEVER be. cool

Yes it's the only song in the album that doesn't fit in it...and it's the only one not written by Janelle and her two partners...

Look at the charts, being white is hardly an advantage these days.

True, their music is not identical but Adele does do music that is more soulful (a word you used to describe Jill Scott) than most "pop" acts and she is also not stick thin, I think there are legitimate similarities between the two of them.

Also, being soulful and jazzy did not seem to hurt Norah Jones as far as moving units is concerned. razz

I think that Jill's "problem" is simply that her music is too esoteric.

If you're not a typical black girl (natural hair, dark skin...)you can be a superstar (see Rihanna, Beyonce...) sad but true...it's the damn music system...but it's always be in that way...see also the massive stars (really massive) back in day even Prince and MJ... they werent' the typical black guys neither...

Yes it is very sad and even STILL they give a false depiction of a fair skin black girl. Beyonce and Rihanna look nothing like they are depicted.. false long hair, made up just another false European interpretation of a black woman disbelief

Michael Jackson 70s, 80, was brown skin/ chocolate yum lol while he wasnt dark dark, he was handsome still... he definitly wasnt "light skin" unlike Prince and he still was successful.

Diana Ross was another beautiful chocolate sista... she wasnt light skin... I think at the end of the day it has to do mostly with being marketable.

But sadly it seems they give a false depiction of black beauty and images in the media and if you dont look like that.. you arent beautiful... These are the SAME image people in my age range have to look up to... it isnt real.

I think Jill Scott, Adele, Janelle Monae are ALL beautiful and I am NOT just saying that because I love their music.

Adele and Jill Scott have beautiful faces both....Janelle too... but I saw photos of Janelle with dresses, skirts...she also has an amazing body ...and beautiful legs...it's admirable her choice to cover herself and not singing in bikini like many otherd nowdays..really..she reminds me of Lauryn Hill... another beautiful natural black girl...

If you remember the Supremes was one of the first black acts to be criticed for their choice of wearing wigs (Gordy president of Motown was trying to reach a white audience).. wink
