Artists that you've grown out of

Maybe they represent your youth but don't fit in with what you're listening to anymore.

Maybe you just don't give a fuck about them anymore.

Maybe they remind you of a bad time in your life.

Maybe you've just grown past them.

Who are they?

I have several that fall into this category. Michael Jackson is one of the main ones. I still love him and his music. I just don't listen to him anymore. Occasionally I'll have a little spree and throw on 'Thriller' for a week but it doesn't last. I'd still consider seeing him in concert if he ever got his shit together. biggrin

I used to really be into Pearl Jam when I was younger and now I can't sit through any of their old CD's. There have been other bands that I have really been into and even though my enthusiasm has waned a bit I still enjoy their music but for whatever reason this hasn't been the case with Pearl Jam.

I've grown out of Depeche Mode. I stopped following them after Songs Of Faith And Devotion.

I still listen to everything pre-1993 though, it's just that I don't care what they put out anymore.

Prince, no doubt about it. I haven't put in a Prince wrecka in at least 6 months (I played them all to death, really)

but with every new release comes the hope of that old feeling.

Mariah Carey
The first cassette I ever bought was "Music Box". Then I bought all her older albums.
But "Butterfly" was the beginning of the end. Her voice changed, the clothes got tackier, and I just didn't like the music anymore.

Dre, snoop and Too Short are my main 3. I'm about the same age as them and while I still like them I just don't connect with the shit they are still talking about. I don't need cats in their 50's talking about "bitches" and "rollin' with the hommies" Just the nature of the rap game I guess but geez can we move on.

U2. I loved them during the mid 80s. Even saw the "Zoo TV" tour live. But, I really haven't followed them since "Achtung Baby!" I'm sure they still rock, though.

I don't want to get flamed for this but...I was a much more avid Prince fan before Purple Rain.

you're one of the few and the proud, 4 sure. horns actually, i wuz like u (sorta) when i wuz in hi school...'cept it wasn't about p. i dug marilyn manson 4 a second (yeah, kinna creepie). me and all my friends were into manson's very first album, then when he started goin mainstream & folks started jumpin on the bandwagon just cuz he wuz deemed "cool" by radio/empteevee standards, it got 2 the point where i just didn't dig 'im no more. i got into prince right after that....lucky me. woot!

as 4 me--i used 2 be into michael jackson when i wuz a lot younger...then i grew up and pretty much didn't pay heed 2 'im. i also wuz a huge milli vanilli fan, but we all know what happened with them...evillol

hammer blame it on the edit.

Fo sho! Thanks, girl.

Next week my assignment for my Creative Process class is to bring in 3 items that represent my past, my present, and my future. I think I'm going to bring in "Dirty Mind." This album and Prince's earlier work were a big part of my coming of age. I love him for that.

Elton John. I was a fan when I was a little kid, but his voice gradually started grating on my day by day. I like his 70s material, but it's just not my thing any more. It's all good, but I'm just not connecting with it.

Metallica and Korn. The lyrics seem really silly now.

Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, George Michael, and Paula Abdul. Actually, I'm crazy about them for about 3 months after each puts out an album, but it's so long in between that I lose interest. And their catalogues are so brief that it's hard for it to hold my interest in the lean years.

Janet Jackson - a clear cut case of "used to be quite good but is utter UTTER shite now".

What I've found is that Prince still stands the test of time, I mean I can't hear Purple Rain one more time but everything else is still strong with me

I never knew you were into Olivia Newton-John in the first place, outside of the Grease soundtrack maybe.
