Vanilla Ice has warned teen sensation Justin Bieber to enjoy his success while he can because his fame won't last.

The one-time rapper, real name Rob Van Winkle, was catapulted to fame thanks to his hit 1990 track Ice Ice Baby - the first hip-hop single to top the U.S. Billboard charts.

But the star's fame was fleeting and he struggled to maintain his success and Ice predicts the Canadian superstar will suffer the same fate.

He tells the Huffington Post, "I mean, I did 'Ice Ice Baby' when I was 16. So I can kind of relate a bit. Sold over a hundred million records. And I had a weekend that lasted about three years, and I didn't know who I was, what's my purpose in life.

"So my prediction about Bieber is that he's going to go through one of those weekends that lasts a few years because he's had such success as a child act.

"Then something else new will come along and he'll be forgotten and he can try to put all the pieces back together, so it's going to be entertaining to watch."

Rob was seen as a novelty. All he did was rap to a familiar song, had a look, and a few years in the spotlight, and his people tried to milk it for all it was worth without trying to become a credible artist.

This is a whole other situation. Bieber's not seen as a novelty and can tell he has himself surrounded by people who keep him on track as far as his image/reputation goes, and try to give him some breathing space to be a teenager.

Also, social media didn't exist 20 years ago, and in a way, the whole mall incident that happened to him put Twitter on the radar for a lot of people.

As far as child actors & child singers go, they're not all trainwrecks. I mean, Jimmy Page was 15 and playing on TV. The Bee Gees were younger than Bieber was when they made their first TV appearance. There's plenty of others. And wasn't Prince making money in bands and had a recording contract while he was still in high school?

The "one-hit wonder' status is somewhat misleading. VI is actually a two-hits wonder with Ice Ice Baby & Play That Funky Music.

I think it's kind of interesting that of all the people he wants to "lecture" it's going to be the one who coasts through fame like he wrote the book on it.

A WHOLE lot! That "Extreme" album didn't even do 50 million worldwide. He's tripping.

The Vanilla Ice novelty wore off at lightning pace, here it was like 6 weeks between when he was cool (November 1990) to when he was considered wack and good for nerds only (After Xmas 1990). I saw his weak rapping talent straight away, then again I was hardly a discrening music afficionado at the time (I thought MC Hammer was a better rapper than Ice T). Then a month later at an after Xmas 1990 sale I found a copy of "Fear of a Black Planet" on sale for about $5, bought it and became the most popular kid around in Form 4 (Equivalent to your high school Freshman year). Everyone dug Public enemy and they got into them because of me.

Justin Bieber is even less talented than Vanilla, but he has much morer sex appeal and wholesome cuteness that should at least buy him another couple of years though.

I think it was "Wild Thing" but that only got to #2 I think. Hammer's "U Can't Touch This" could've easily been #1 had the song had been issued in more copies than the 12'.
