Keith Richards’ Memoir Sells 1M Copies

August 30, 2011

Keith Richards’ memoir, Life, has become one of the best-selling rock autobiographies of all-time.

As reported by RollingStone, the legendary guitarist’s tell-all book has sold more than one million copies, a total that’s the literary equivalent of achieving platinum status in the music world.

In addition to earning Richards a massive payday – he received a $7 million-plus advance for the tome – the book earned nearly universally positive reviews. Chief among these was effusive praise lavished on Lifeby rocker Liz Phair, in a lead review for the New York Times.

Richards, who penned the book with British author James Fox, chronicled the arc of his life thus far, including his post-war boyhood, his adventures with The Rolling Stones and the dynamics of his creative bond with Mick Jagger. He also wrote freely and openly about his past troubles with substance abuse.

I wonder if he speaks about snorting his Father's ashes in this book? Talk about odd.

The man is a character. He's also a member of one of the most famous and influential rock groups of all time. I'm not suprised his book has sold so well.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

He does, it was tongue-in-cheek and the media, as is their wont, ran away with themselves over it.
