Okay, I just sat down and listened to Back To Black yesterday for the first time. In the past I only heard it in the background at other peoples' houses. I have to say she's a better writer than I gave her credit for. "Love Is A Losing Game" is beautiful.

The whole album is dripping in truth. Those emotions are the real thing. I think that reptilian boyfrend of hers may have inadvertently done her a favour. My criticism of her when she first emerged was that there was an immaturity there; a lack of depth. Blake Fielder Civil came along and single-handedly cured her of this problem by fucking her up and causing her pain. It's terrible to say, but it gave her much deeper emotions to draw on. She had more to say.

Unfortunately her legacy is about to be dilluted by the inevitable release of substandard material to cash in on her death. Like MJ, I don't think she was in a fit state to write quality material in her final years. There'll be some nice outtakes from her earlier days of course, but I think Amy is gonna be squirming from the grave if they put out any unfinished material from the elusive "third album" .

You MUST now get her first CD set, Frank (Deluxe), it's a bit more raw and has great music/lyrics too. I usually like it even better than Back to Black I think.

There's also the Live DVD (concert portion will be on MTV tonight), but the documentary extras make it worth every penny and includes her first live demo session for Island Records.

I already know several songs from Frank and I've just checked out a few more on Youtube. "Fuck Me Pumps" has a good melody, but most of the early stuff sounds too much like Erykah Badu for me. I'm sure one day I'll sit down and listen to the album, but I'm not in a rush. I think moving away from that Erykah style was a good idea.

It's interesting that she had new material already lined up in early 2008. That gives me hope there might be a few more decent tracks in the BTB style lying around. One thing's for sure; there won't be anything of value from those last 2-3 years.

Tell your boyfriend next time he around
To buy his own weed and don't wear my shit down
I wouldn't care if bre would give me some more
I'd rather him leave you then leave him my draw

When you smoke all my weed man
You gotta call the green man
So I can get mine and you get yours

Once is enough to make me attack
So bring me a bag and your man can come back
I'll check him at the door make sure he got green
I'm tighter than airport security teams

When you smoke all my weed man
You gotta call the green man
So I can get mine and you get yours

I'm my own man so when will you learn
That you got a man but I got to burn
Don't make no difference if I end up alone
I'd rather have myself a smoke my homegrown
It's got me addicted, does more than any dick did

Yeh I can get mine and you get yours

YAAAS Amy Winehouse. This is my favorite song by her. Completely taken aback by this tune when i first heard it.

Amy Winehouse's Dad Gives Her Clothes to Fans

WOW! Now that's something you don't see everyday!

It changes to see a family not trying to make money out of every thing belonging to the decesed one...

I think it's great, because the family doesn't need those tank tops, they have no value for them, because they knew her and she was family, yet for the fans, it is something they'll be able to cherish for a long time (even if some are probably already on eBay...)

thumbs up!

Yeah, I love Graffiti Bridge movie, so what? ''Oooooooooooh Montreal, say it!''
If you can't be nice to someone on the net, you probably ain't worth much talking to in real life either.

That is cool of them to do and I do think Amy would approve since she was usually open & accessible to her fans there. Kudos to you, Pops!

Her Dad's a handsome dude. What a kind gesture to give Amy's clothes away to her fans that cared enough to be camped outside her flat for so long.

If you haven't heard 'Frank' in it's entirety - - go and find yourself a copy right now.

Judging by the majority of music tastes on the Org, I can easily say that many will prefer it to 'Back To Black' nod

I listen to that album every night, I swear. It's therapy for me.

Huh? This isn't a thread for antiseptic, post-mortem appraisals of her work. 'least I didn't think so. I figured this thread would be about sharing in the music and appreciating her work and it's infinite invaluability. That also includes the last 2-3 years, of which she recorded tons of material. In fact, she never stopped recording so any shit you hear about there not being anything worthy is categorically wrong and simply silly to say.

You're in a thread full of fans, critiquing this woman. It doesn't get any less classy, barring reading negative reviews as a eulogy.

this is one of my favorite performances by Ms. Winehouse. it's after all of the controversy started, she got herself together for this performance and killed it. I love how she shouts out "My Blake!" that's Real Passion and then again when she shouts out "London"

Thank you so much for posting the vids. Tomorrow will be 1 week since Amy Winehouse left this earth. I can't seem to stop thinking about the heartfelt sounds in music she left in this world. I feel she was a gift to the many. Only I wish she would have known what a musical talented gift she held so close to her soul.

My heart still mourns for the rawness of her sound and the beauty she possessed. The lady, Amy Winehouse was cute, beautiful, fine, lovely, unique, different and pixie-ish. She could have been so so stellar had she not allowed the undisclosed pain she suffered take over. My love will always go out to her in my memories.

Wow, that was fantastic, she did really hit it out of the park! The guys sure got a good work out and they were all so excited for her. I love her expression when they announced her win, she really was so humble & shy and gave such cute smiles, it brought tears once again!

That is cute and she's even wearing a Disney shirt. biggrin

All those people who KNEW it was an OD can eat their fucking words now. NO drugs or paraphenalia were found in the house, according to the police. I had a friend who's alcoholic husband tried to quit cold turkey and when she called his doctor, he said to give him a beer IMMEDIATELY or he could have a seizure. He didn't even drink liquor, just shitloads of beer all day, every day.

yeah, and what i love so much about this awesome this performance, the way she workes the camera with her eyes. I love how she is using her whole body to sing, shaking like a bird when it ruffles its feathers, just to get different tones and vibrations.

What i find so amazing is after she says she is honored to be there she looks down and takes 2-3 steps back as they fade out.

It was during this time she was getting bad press in regards to Her and Blake, and still she stands by her man. Changing the lyrics to shout him out. Just Awesome!

"there will be none of him no more, i cried for ya 7614(?) MY BLAKE." She is so unapologetic straight SANGING "I told you i was trouble" and the way she rides the groove with her dance moves. and then at the line of the song the way she screams, she ment that shit!

then in Rehad... "i would rather be at home with my Blake"

I just love how she loves him so much and you can tell. NO FEMALE artist out today has that kind of devotion to herself. If you know what i mean.

there are so many reasons why this performance is so EPIC!.

also to be honest i can't believe no one has said how much Lady Gaga looks like her. espcially when she has black hair. Ms. Winehouse was definately an insperation.

Bar far one of the best Grammy performances EVER!

this is a great example of where reality and performance blend together perfectly!

That exceptance speech it Bomb Delicious!

Aw I felt sad watching that, and she really seemed sweet at the end too hugging her mom, I can only imagine how much pain there is in losing a child.

I remember watching that performance when it aired, but I wasn't really a fan yet and knew nothing about her so I kind of mocked the performance, but I think shortly after it I began appreciating her, and her death shocked me cause the last I heard, she was doing alright and people were quick to jump to conclusions. I watched it again and I love the one of I'm No Good, always liked that song.

Dreamfirstborn, you hit the nail right on the head!

You pointed out Amy's childlike characteristics that many don't see. I love how she always casually looked at the floor and sang her heart out and she would bust out some dance moves. This Grammy performance has much more sass than her other performances, lol. Amy was making a statement "I may not be at the Grammys but I'm still here kicking ass!"

I know many don't like Blake but he was the inspiration behind almost all of her songs and I believe they were truly soulmates at heart.
