R. Kelly & Public Announcement

The first single R. Kelly and the boys put out, an early 90's R&B New Jack classic cool

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

All music is shit music and no music is real- gunsnhalen

Not really. "Home Alone" is uptempo and was a hit.

It appears we where both wrong on some aspects. ahahah

I'm a big R. Kelly fa and just recently got Public Announcement, and i thought that was there first? hmmm

But Robert had a couple up tempo classics from his solo album R and of course there is Home Alone.

Vibe is the only R. Kelly song I liked. Other than that, I've never paid any attention to his stuff. I doubt I can name 5 of his other songs, at least the ones he sang. lol

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Not me. Home Alone is not on the same speed as Vibe.

I actually didn't think this song or the singer was shit back then. I remembered when Comic View clowned on Kels back then with that song, one of the comics mimicked him and parodied "Vibe" as "Fries", I think he was imagining if Kels was working at McDonald's or something. lol

Wasn't until "Honey Love" that I thought "hmm we may have something here". When "12 Play" took off, that was a wrap lol

Oh hell yeah, once 12 play came out it was over. R. Kelly had made his name then biggrin

"Honey Love" and "Dedicated" put him on the map. By the time 12 Play came out, he was a star.

Not quite. no no no! Home Alone is mid-tempo.

I guess....when "She's Got That Vibe" came out, uptempo songs were pretty-much dead. That's why the album didn't do well until "Honey Love" and "Dedicated" dropped.

When "Vibe" came out, people assumed it was either Guy or Aaron Hall solo. People didn't buy his album until "Honey Love" came out. That was the change in direction for Kels. And he's since made his career built on R&B ballads and mid-tempo songs.

Although the genre New Jack Swing was at the tail-end of its era, Michael was still doing uptempo songs. Remember his Dangerous album? cool

Fries! Fries! Fries! Girl you better supersize!

Yeah, I remember that comic view too. He was hilarious.

Kelly and PA were big around my area. Dedicated, Honey Love, Vibe, Slow Dance, Hey Love were all big jams.

Jam, Why You Wanna Trip On Me, I Can Let Her Get Away, & Dangerous were definitely uptempo tracks.

Although Remember The Time was not as fast as those other 4 tracks, it sure as hell was NOT mid-tempo because it was within 115 to 118 BPM, give or take. Mid-tempo is within 90-99 BPM (EXAMPLE: Every track on Dr. Dre's The Chronic album were 95 BPM on average).
