Ike was underated. They never mention him in the great guitarist & song writer categories ever... will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

I was just about to say that. It is like his personal life overshadows his talent when he is mentioned. Whenever I hear someone speak of Tina, of course, Ike is mentioned and it is in regards to his physical and drug abuse. But Ike was a true talent! "You need to laydown and let me show you how we do this thing up in funky town. From the heart of Minnesota here come the purple Yoda guaranteed to bring the dirty new sound! Come on, now!"

They need to do a proper reissue of Ike and Tina's back catalog. There's the box set, but nothing comprehensive, because he signed on with a lot of different record labels.

Ike Turner has always gotten props as a guitarist, pianist and talent scout - they've just been overshadowed by his stormy relationship with Tina. He and Johnny Guitar Watson were pioneers for their day. In addition, Ike's always gotten props for having participated on what's widely believed to be the first "true" rock 'n roll record, "Rocket 88". I rarely agree with anything Rolling Stone-wise, but this description of Ike is pretty apt:
100 Greatest Guitarists:

Born on the Mississippi Delta, Turner was one of the first guitarists to successfully transplant the intensity of the blues into more-commercial music. His sound, built around his own razor-sharp rhythm guitar, combined four-on-the-floor rock energy, brash soul shouts and precision execution into a dizzying assault. Well I never hear him mentioned on any survey's @ all or when any of the greats are mentioned. Tina didn't even attend his funeral here in LA. But Little Richard did. No matter what he supposedly will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

Ike definitely gets props for what he did for early rock and roll and soul music.
