I love the Commodore version. She sounds more pissed & sassy in this one lol

But before I'll be your dog, I'll see you in your grave...

I was surprised when I read that Lady Day has a strong feminist following, it sure didn't cross my mind at all. I love how Farah Jasmine Griffin broke this version down in her book, one might think she was reaching and overanalyzing but upon reading more about the person behind this song, I'm thinking Miss Griffin's point might have some merit.

Billie Holliday is the Leading Lady and godmother of all female R&B artists. She was a great human right activist too and I cry everytime when I hear her Strange Fruit. Even though, I'm glad that she lived between 1915 and 1959 because I can imagine what may have happened if she was born after that. sad Now we have many recordings and fine interpretations to share.

I'm truly sorry that Amy Winehouse tried to walk on her footsteps.

"Don't want excuses, yeah. Write me your poetry in motion."

The best version for me, is Billie singing this song live in Paris... perfect. When I get sometime I'll upload it.
