Ready For The World: Anybody Else Liked These Songs I always thought that these songs were overlooked for the other hit singles they had from their debut album:

I have there greatest hits collection. Their very underrated and should have been bigger than they were. Alot of their songs and style remind me of Prince

Loved all of their stuff including the 2 unrelased projects.

Yeah, I wore my tape out back then with that one. I don't remember anything being flat out wack from their debut.

That is an understatement if I ever heard one. Hell, these guys probably were one of the first graduating class of Prince's University of MPLS Funk.

They were pretty big news on the R&B side of things. I remember reading an interview from them saying something to the fact of not trying to sound like Prince, but they appreciated the compliment. These fellas were good for the time. Their slow songs were VERY good. Good music makes me happy.

Lol. Well yes I agree. They did bite Prince's whole style and sound but can you blame them?

They had a funny way of NOT trying to sound like him:-D. I always liked their fast songs more than their slow. I love Mary Goes Round. It's sooo 80's

I've been listening to the "Long Time Coming" album a lot lately "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I love "Ready for the World", I think alot of people do.
For some reason though whenever I read their band name now I always think of that Twista song "Slow Jamz".
"...Ready for the World, some New Edition/some Minnie Ripperton/would definitely set this party off riiiightttt...." *fast rapping goes here* "I don't think you'd do well in captivity." - random person's comment to me the other day

I like that album even more than the debut.Favorites are "Baby (Let Me Love You)","Mary Goes Round" and "Do You Get Enough" (the three tracks that sound the most like Prince, lol).

Ready For The World are one of my favorite bands of all time. Wore out the "Long Time Coming" album so much it ain't even funny.
And yeah, they have a grip of sick songs that weren't singles and most folks don't know about.
I even dig the "Ruff N Ready" album when they went all New Jack Swing with cuts like "My Girly".
Melvin Riley has a sick vocal tone, he is mad under-rated.
Gray I would be interested to hear about the unreleased stuff.

I'll track down those cd's this weekend.

I saw them live last year and was shocked at how tight the band still sounds and that Melvin's voice is the same. That was a really good show.

Yeah, his tone was/is always smooth. Cool vocal style too. He's probably underrated due to the band itself being underrated plus he wasn't a "traditional belter" vocally.

Of all the retro bands Mo'Nique has on her show why hasn't she booked them guys yet?! Or has she?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Good question if she hasn't already.

I can't fuck with Monique's show at ALL.
I hope it ain't some crazy Monique stans laying in wait to jump on my back for shunning their heroine or bff in their head.

I feel ya! | |

I knew that you could. | |

I don't think you have a thing to worry about though. I think most folks don't even dig Mo like that. Even THOSE FOLKS.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Nah, nobody feeling Monique like that. At least I'm not. I think your backside is all clear Dear

LOVE RFTW!
Their first 2 albums are solid, classic material. How can I stand 2 stay where I am? / Poor butterfly who don't understand.

When I saw 'em live I think they did Ceramic Girl and Human Toy and it was crickets in the joint. I was like, "That's MY SHIT!!!" But they did a 15 min remixversion of Love You Down that was ridiculous

DAMN! I know they tore it up especially with Melvin and the guitarist!
