Beyonce Knowles Covers 'Style and Design' August issue for Complex Magazine Beyonc Knowles covers Complex Magazine's annual Style & Design issue for August/September and speaks on her new album '4', bringing back R&B, her husband Jay-Z and the inspiration he gives her, working with R&B newcomer Frank Ocean and why she was moved to tears when she first heard Kanye West's "Runaway." Be also speaks about her legacy in music, the talent that separates her from everyone else and more.
Be was photographed by Thierry Le Gous and with the help of artist Ebon Heath, which designed the sculptures surround B, she stares at us with that patented, "come hither" look. The accompanying spread is a mix of sexy black and white and color photos with a high-fashion bend to it.
The 29-year-old singer is letting her hair down in more ways then one, and this Complex cover is another spread that reminds us that Beyonce isn't afraid of change.
On Jay-Z: "Jay's music is more than music. His lyrics have fathered generations. All that he has overcome gives millions so much hope. There are moments when I see his lips moving and I can see lyrics floating above his head and I think, 'Wow! How did I get so lucky to be able to witness this level of genius so closely?' "
Talking on how she picked Run The World (Girls) and other singles, Be said: "I've found that with hit records the melody and lyrics come together [naturally]," she said. "I usually know from the hook if the song is something that transcends language, race and genre, and if it's something that affects pop culture. It's something I can visualize people singing in stadiums all over the world. But my favorite songs on my albums are usually not my singles."
On what she'd like her legacy to be: "I just want my legacy to be great music. Someone who was a risk taker and someone who had songs that struck conversation and emotion."

@ red highlighted words....I had to re-read twice.......First I was on Yahoo reading a ridiculous statement from Kim K in regards to protectiong her public image by sueing Old Navy...I was like oh really....then to come here and read EVEN MORE dilusional self image critque.....
Clicked on link and photo on the right is nice, I actually purchased the one with Nikki Minaj on the cover because the phote was hot! I'm a sucker for a nice b&w photo.
Can someone tell me in the video on the Complex link...it's that a Beyonce song chanting..."don't fuck with me" ?? The Voguers are gonna destroy that chant at the next ball battle!
I'm still iffy on purchasing the new album.....I tend to play them for a about two weeks after the purchase and then they get shelved. "A Man Can't Ride Your Back Unless It's Bent" MLK 4/3/68 |
