Ok i am VERY late to this party! but i just heard So for the first time and this guy is brilliant!

I also liked Genesis but never was to to familiar with Peter and his solo career omg!!! What visionary the music and the videos!! just brilliant man i can not believe i slept on this cd.

Anyone else recommend where to go from here with his cd's?

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

"Us" is probably the next album you'd wanna go for if you liked "So", because it's the next most catchy.

We're here, might as well get into it.

Welcome to the party. I just completed my Peter Gabriel library about a week or two ago. Great stuff.

The DVD of his videos are pretty cool.

The first 4 solo albums are all classics, esp. if you like Robert Fripp & Tony Levin, but the "melting face" album is prob. my favorite, & Phil Collins plays drums on most of it.

Selling England by the Pound is prob. the best Genesis era album from beginning to end. I like Foxtrot and Lamb, but I wind up skipping through songs on them.

I like Selling England By The Pound but ironically that's about the only Gabriel era album where I skip tracks. More Fool Me and I Know What I Like have never been songs that I liked all that much.... but, the rest of it is so awesome.

Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot and Lamb are some of my favorite albums of all time. Trespass ain't too shabby either.

As for Gabriel's solo career, I agree with all that's been said already!!! He's freakin' brilliant and what a voice!! It was unlikely that his forward thinking music would find success commercially...I'm so glad he did have that success.

Just last week I downloaded a video/doc with footage from the "So" tour.

How can you have a Peter Gabriel thread without "Sledgehammer" in it? That's like starting an MJ thread and never mentioning "Thriller"; shit makes no sense.... mad lol.

Is my mind just dirty or did he actually say "open up your fruitcakes..." in the second verse?

I love Peter Gabriel's work. Very interesting stuff. I particularly like Biko and his early work with Genesis.

Because not everyone is a fanatic of hits or Top 40 programming only. Some people like other music and not just think something is valid only if a bunch of other people heard of it or bought it.

I give sledgehammer major props, cause it opened the door to peter gabriel to alot of "pop" fans.

Plus I love that the last piece of fruit he puts in his mouth is a cherry. hmmm

lol I love the video. Still a classic. Peter Gabriel was like the progressive rock's answer to a glam rocker when he was with Genesis due to his costumes. I always thought he was too avant garde for pop anyways. Looking back, having hits with "Big" and "Sledgehammer" was a big deal for Peter. The alternative to Phil Collins (since both were in Genesis after all).
