#1 '80s Feestyle Diva

Think back to the '80's and those crooning freestyle divas that we used to dance to. Who was YOUR favorite latin lovely lady?

A) Lisa Lisa
B) Lysette Melendez
C) Brenda K. Starr

I remember buying the Brenda K. Starr album just for the song "I Still Believe".The rest of the album wasn't bad..."Breakfast In Bed" and "What You See Is What You Get" were decent singles.

She's a great artist who never really got the stardom and recognition she deserved.

She even took MARIAH CAREY in 1988 to a Sony
(then known as CBS Records) party in which she met Tommy Mattola and the rest is pop royalty history...and Brenda was dropped from Sony/CBS not too long after that! She was on a VH-1 special saying "I would pass by McDonalds with my kid in the car and thinking 'I can't even afford to buy a happy meal'!"

She's put some great salsa albums in recent years...one includes a salsa version of "I Still Believe"!!!

Not too many people realize that Brenda K Starr gave Mariah her big break. You'd think that Mariah would've at least done a duet with her at some point?!?!

Brenda made a minor sensation when she followed India's lead and put out a salsa album (which she had to learn to speak Spanish for). She re-made "I Still Believe" in salsa only AFTER Mariah Carey released her version of the song.

hmm
