I agree. I love that martha wash song Everybody.. Evverybody.. Everybody.. EVVVerbody

I was a young kid back then so i didnt like chill music. Anything chill and jazzy was "old people music" to me

EXACTLY!!!!! AMEN dammitt!!!

I have always said that beginning with the 1990s, that's when music started going backwards instead of forwards. I mean, hell, it took swing music and later, rock and roll music to get people out of that "everything slow" mode and put rhythm in the music and the 1990s come along and undo all the progress that was made from probably the 1940s on up through the 1980s.

That's why it gets on my nerves when I hear people say..."Every generation hates the new generation's music, that's just part of getting older"....because that's not the case at all. The previous generations hated new music because it got faster and got rhythm in it which they considered "the work of the devil" and they also didn't like profanity and stuff like that. Well, hell, I love rhythm and as far as profanity goes, hell, the nastier the better so that's not my beef at all. And I wasn't in my 30s or 40s when I started hating current music. When I first started noticing it changing and going backwards was when Shitney and all the "parent friendly" folks came on the scene in the mid to late 1980s and I was in my late teens at the time. And I was in my 20s when the 1990s came along and everything mainstream became slow and never got past midtempo. Now, the only people that would consider people in their 20s as simply just "getting older", would be the hillbillies who get married at age 13. lol It really trips me out when I hear folks say "you're just getting older" because they really have no clue. They're the ones listening to nothing but music that never gets faster than Lawrence Welk, not me. lol

You are so on about how slow tempo took over the 90s.

I remember in all the school talent shows kids would sing the same damn Whitney Houston song " Cooouuunt on meeee through thick and thinnn a friendship that will never end." disbelief

I remember at church camp lol my friends and i sang that damn song. I remember hating that damn song cause i wanted to sing Everybody by black box but they didnt know that song. I remember thinking were gonna looking boring and lame singing that song. Plus those little scandalous ho's only let me sing One "Count on" at the end lol

And i REALLY hated everything jodeci! Those awful jodeci boots, that ugly ass jodeci squats and the terrible Jodeci "OOh oo YEAH!'s"

I had some house dance collection tape my parents bought me..i played that shit to the ground.

" i just wanna get i just wanna get i just wanna get ...payed"

Lmao lol at your hate for lawrence welk, do you hate him more than Whitney?

Hey, I shit on part of the 1980s too. The late 1980s were horrible and I was only in my late teens. Shitney Houston, Anita Faker, Deady Jackson, Hicki Howard, Regina Smell....horrible years. It felt like Debbie Boone, Barbara Streisand, Ethel Mermon, and Neil Diamond had taken over R&B radio. lol

Avoided hell! In my late teens and fresh out of high school. Those are supposed to be party years. Those old fogie type singers put a huge dent in those years.

I remember sneaking out of my grandmother's house in 1979 when I was either in the 6th or 7th grade and walking up to the disco that was in the shopping center up the street from her house. I got as far as the door and was asked for ID. I said "What's ID" and they said, "Little boy, if you don't even know what ID is, you're too young to get in here". lol Then my grandmother finding out and telling me "They'll be plenty of time for discos when you get grown"....Yeah, right. Disco "died" the very next year and that discoteque turned into a country/western club where elite wannabe "urban cowboys" rode mechanical bulls. lol Then, I remember going skating to the funk and having fun but still being pissed that I couldn't get into clubs and really have fun only to be told, once again, they will be time for that once you get grown. Then when I did get grown, BAM, funk is dying and a bunch of old "conservative" shit is taking over. I tell ya, I finally got grown, but when I did, everyone's tastes got "old"...I'm talking senior citizen type "old". evillol

I hung around for awhile and thinked back to the different changes that occurred in my past and thought to myself "OK, with all the changes I've seen before, this dull shit will finally go out of style like everything else". Bullshit. That shit never went out of style and is still here today. lol

At least I had a few good years of gay house in the early to mid 1990s but I tell ya, the dead asses cheated me out of a lot of good years of partying. If I had been straight, hell, I wouldn't have had any good years of partying in my adult life. lol

I sure could have. I could have lived on the street and eaten out of garbage cans because I wouldn't have known anyone, wouldn't have had a job, and wouldn't have had any money. Hell, I couldn't even get a job right here in Jackson at the time, let alone somewhere else with no connections for even the most basic necessities such as food and shelter. Same excuses from all the employers..."Do you have any experience"....to which I would reply...."How am I supposed to get experience if nobody will give me some"....so I ended up in convenience store for nine years until a customer that was a friend of mine, got me on where I am now. Getting a job really is all about who you know. lol

But if I had gotten out of here, it would have been the same. It might have been a little different for a little while but from what I've seen, when the mid 1990s came along, musically, things became basically the same nationwide and it shows when you go to different radio stations' websites and listen to their broadcasts. It's the same ole shit that's down here. At least I didn't burn my bridges down here looking for a party somewhere else that didn't exist.

Running off to New York and eating out of garbage cans may have paid off for someone like Madonna but I don't have no pussy to sell. lol

I'm an 80s child and an 80s lover but I don't deny I loved some bits of 90s (and miss them somehow). I can't help associate songs with memories and stuff. On the other hand, the 90s where the first decade to do musical recycling, musical critics went like "Hey this year we gonna bring the 60s/70s back!"

Is there any place of refuge one can flee from this insanity

If so they weren't stating it in the same obvious way. The 90s took from the 60s, 70s and other musicals and claimed to follow those courses.

From about 96 on, commercial music was almost as bad as it is now.

1991-1995 was the last inspired period for mainstream (called alternative at the time) rock. Really, how many great albums came out in those years? I even love the whole electronic pots n' pans sound of dance and trip-hop from back then.

Also Maxx, Snap and Captain Hollywood! They did so much for dance music and were Euro-based, but aren't talked about enough. By 1995-1996, I would listen to an r&b/urban station for my r&b fix, but also rely on weekend night club nights and this one dance station for dance music, and then there was top 40 radio. I really hated rock for most of the 90's and brushed it off, but now when I look back on the 90's, some of the hip hop I really loved I cringe at and brush off like it didn't exist and like some of the rock stuff better though for the occasional single and not albums very much, just once in awhile.

But other hip hop I hear, I can get down to it, even though I like the original samples better, cause it takes me back to high school years and when the world felt exciting at the time with not many worries like now.

I don't play many modern video games, I miss platforms and RPGs.

Sonic 2, Mario World, ToeJam and Earl, and Pokemon Red are still keeping me entertained whenever I want to play.
