I will proudly raise my hand as a fan of W.A.S.P. Blackie kind of lost me with the K.F.D. album but I quite like everything before that. The Headless Children is one of the better hard rock albums of the late '80s.

Their 80's albums are clearly better than the stuff Kiss (their biggest influence) released during 1984-1989 .

I don't take them seriously at all, but that's why I dig them: it's outrageous, loud, extreme hair-metal music, and we all need that from time to time...

for me, this band lost it when the 80's ended and tried to become a "civilized/respectable" band...

I really would never guess anyone else on here to be a W.A.S.P fan biggrin, The Headless Children is a masterpiece to me. Especially the deluxe version but with track's like The Herectic, The title tracks, Rebel In the F.D.G, Maneater, Thunderhead etc. just great musicianship

I likeed K.F.D lol for it's raw feel but after that he did Helldorado he lost me there big time.

They are a civilized/respectable band.

People seem to not want some artists to grow, Blackie wrote some of those more party anthem songs for the possibility of having hits. Plus he was young, he matured and has made great records since. I think there making better albums then Metallica or Slayers new stuff razz

Sadly true. I put the blame squarely on Gene's shoulders. Paul tried his best and was basically forced to carry the band during those years but he just didn't have enough great songs in him to counterblance the absolute garbage that Gene was writing. During the '80s Blackie was kind of a surrogate Gene Simmons. While Gene was pursuing his acting career Blackie was keeping the flame alive for lunkheaded, knuckle dragging, mouth breathing, bass playing singers with below average musical and vocal ability.

Phaw, there's some good stuff on The Crimson Idol and Still Not Black Enough. It was very out of character for W.A.S.P. to become a "serious" band but they still recorded some great rock songs which were in very short supply in the early-mid '90s. For me the K.F.D. album really ended their run.

Also, to continue the Kiss association both of the above albums feature Bob Kulick.

The Kiss 80's albums are pure guilty pleasures for me, but they are pretty damn awful. Paul was carrying the band while Gene was acting, getting women, raising kids, thinking of more money schemes. The Asylum album is so laughable that i enjoy it for it's... well badness.

And as much as i loved Chris Holmes, Bob did some killer work on Crimson Idol & Still Not Black Enough

Crimson Idol...oh yeah, that album...a bit overrated eh? It's good, but I'm tired of reading in some metal sites that it was one of the best albums of the first half of the 90's, I mean, it's good, but not Headless Children...their true masterpiece, and a good balance of outrageous stuff and "serious" metal...

KFD, wow, that album where they tried to make something industrial?? barf

I haven't listened to it in years but at the time K.F.D. struck me as W.A.S.P. doing Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson. That's not what I want from W.A.S.P. I want big, dumb rock songs from W.A.S.P.

I haven't really bothered with anything from the last fifteen years or so, does any of it sound similar to their '80s/early '90s stuff?

For quite a while all I had was the First Blood...Last Cuts hits disc (which is awesome). When I started diving into the reissues of their albums I was pleasantly surprised to find that they had more good-great songs that were not featured on First Blood...Last Cuts.

It seems unbelievably quaint that anyone was ever offended by "Animal (Fuck Like a Beast)." Really, this is about the stupidest thing I've ever seen:

"Dying for the World" (2002) was a mini-comeback. Stuff about the 9/11. Good production.

"Neon God, Parts 1 & 2" (mid-00's) was considered as a failure by some fans, but as a real success by many others. I was not impressed shrug

It's all very political, kind of like Headless Children but more so. But idk i like political music.. but that's just my thing wink, but it is more straight up heavy rockers.

Being an old school 80's metalhead I dug the self titled LP. I loved KISS and Alice as a kid so WASP fit right in the void. Didn't take them too seriously...just shock rock fun.

However I stopped digging them when Chris Holmes made his statement that "N-----s can't play heavy metal guitar". Lost all respect after that.

Chris is a mixed bag, he goes back and fourth on talking smack. Some interviews he loved his day's in W.A.S.P some not. Chris himself was an absolute alcoholic mess. And even today can barely even talk cause he is so messed up. Chris & Blackie are both very ego driven guys. That is the one thing i hate about them, even today they have poor attitudes towards.... well everything!
