It seems like in any list these two are eligible for they seem to creep into even if without merit.

There's wars, famine, deforestation, pollution, and exploitation and you think a silly list that doesn't mean anything is messed up. lol

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

There's 6 billion people on the earth and I doubt most of them have heard of Rolling Stone or the acts on the list. Most of them are not wasting time doing a survey of this sort. Why are you not mad about this list only featuring acts mainly popular in the USA? There's no Brazilian musicians who dance, no Chinese, Russian, Vietnamese, Indian, Puerto Rican, etc. Does this list mean anything to a bear or dog? No. Will it mean anything 20 years in the future, or even a month from now? No. It's a silly survey that was voted on probably by mainly younger people who are not aware of James Brown and have time to waste. Why would a teen vote for James? That's not someone they would be exposed to, just like they are not likely to vote for Babe Ruth on a baseball survey or Katherine Hepburn on an actress survey. Older people who would know about James, are not likely to be wasting time voting on an online survey by a music magazine, or stuffing it by voting many times like a younger one would.

I wouldnt pay this list much attention. No doubt RS put up an online poll on their website where anybody and everybody can vote more than once. When these kinds of polls are put up online, fans/stans post the link on the messageboards telling other fans/stans to go and vote. Which they do and multiple times. These lists are nothing more than online popularity contests--the artist with the most fans or most diehard stans usually wins because of their excessive voting. These ridiculous lists are fan-driven and not an objective, true representation of the feelings of the general public.

Britney above Madonna?
Maybe 5 years ago... But other than the first 5 years of her career all Brit Brit can do it flip her hair.

I know I'll get hell for this, but I do think Beyonce has earned a spot on that list.

Hardly. Since Madonna attended U of M on a dance scholarship, and was later accepted into the famed Alvin Alley Dance Troupe; I'd say the money was well spent and clearly paid off! wink I'm curious...do you have any accolades that tops–or at the very least matches–just those 2 accomplishments alone to qualify you as a reputable critiquer of who can and can't dance?

Additionally, the jitterbug segment Madonna performed in A League of Their Own and the entire Evita movie further proves that she is a good dancer.

...but of course I wouldn't expect anyone whose idea of dancing is probably limited to trite 'Pop N Lock' moves that any fool can learn from buying an infomercial DVD selling it to be able to see past that.

bored2

To reiterate: Madonna won a scholarship in the field, performed with a world renowned dancing company, has been hired for jobs that *required* dancing...and as a cherry on top was included on this list of top 10 dancing musicians. Again, what have you achieved that gives you the clout to negate anyone's dancing abilities -- let alone hers?

The stuff that acts do now is more like aerobics. Now these are some smooth moves.

10. Thom Yorke
It seems likely that many of you were being sarcastic when you voted for Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke, but in any case, the elfin art rocker actually does have a totally fascinating – if entirely unconventional – style of dance. After years of shaking, twitching and stomping around like a dinosaur whenever he was not burdened with a guitar on stage, Yorke got around to showcasing his dance moves in the band's video for "Lotus Flower" earlier this year. It's a mesmerizing clip, full of bizarre moments that instantly became fodder for a number of re-edited fan videos, including this particularly funny clip in which Yorke is cut into Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan.
