Ratt ~ Round And Round

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

That record had some pretty great metal-pop songs. The lead guitarist, Warren DeMartini, was crazy good for only playing about 7 years at that point. The "other guy" Robbin Crosby died of a heroin overdose in 2002 - he was also HIV positive. Sad story.

I thought Ratt was great.

Used to love this in the mid 80's. Stephen Pearcy was kind of sexy back in the day wink

If he wasn't such a pretentious dick I'd say the same thing. neutral But I've read some groupie stories that he's not as much a hit with the ladies in the sack lol

I still cry when reading about their guitarist and how he died and how it seemed RATT just forgot his ass. disbelief

That album was good when i was a kid i loved she wants money, Back For More, I'm Insane, The Morning After, Wanted Man, You're In Trouble & Lack Of Communication.

But hair metal i overplayed it as a kid and it's kind of annoying to me now, a lot of the bands from that era.

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Robbin Crosby was also Nikki Sixx's roommate before they all got famous. They were so poor that they didn't have a refrigerator - they used a $5 styrofoam cooler to keep things cold. I imagine that was primarily booze.

Yeah I saw him in the Behind the Music episode of Ratt and he looks like a creepy schoolteacher now.

It amazes me every time I read on the pre-famous lives of hair metal bands and all of them seemed to be one step into the poor house, just about all of them. They all follow that same pattern too.

I honestly think that's why a lot of the music was so fun and good (well, some of it)

Some of it sounded fake to me lol I don't know that's just me. It was like they were trying to mix glam rock with heavy metal and most produced bad results (to me). I even hate how they refer to Bret Michaels as a "glam rocker" for example.

I like Ratt.

They could be cheesy in a way only glam rock or hair metal can, but it was hot hot hot.

Can't hardly stand watching silly glam rock videos. Sounds much better in the car or the stereo.

So true, a lot of it was just following the band wagon. And when EVER hair metal artists had to have a ballad cause that would be the top 10 hit. I Noticed it was so cookie cutter as i got older razz

When 'Out of the Cellar' was big, around 1984, I'd say hair metal was still pretty cool.

But it got so commerical & cookie cutter that by 1989, it was ridiculous and kind of a joke. People running in those circles are still pissed that Nirvana/grunge killed it, but it needed killing. It wasn't respectable anymore.

Yet these hair metal bands cool are still touring today and grunge lasted for about 5 years.

Great point. lol

I lived through hair metal, but get my brainless nostalgia fix by other means: 70s disco.

Uh I beg to differ. lol

Soundgarden still doing their thing. Dave Grohl has had a long career with the Foo Fighters. Alice in Chains are carrying on without Mike Starr and Layne Staley. Pearl Jam is still going on and its leader Eddie Vedder recently had a solo album that did well on the charts. Courtney Love is still a presence with Hole whenever they do an album.

To be honest both hair metal and grunge had short years but the acts that sparked both genres are still here so don't rule either of them out.

Besides who the fuck wanna still see some old guys from the hair metal days shake their ass and they're either fat or losing their hair/looks? Please. ohgoon

Well Def Leppard is quite an exception (Joe Elliott's still cute lol).

Well i guess those bands are going strong, Pearl Jam are a different band than they used to be (for the better IMH) as is Soundgarden, AIC are doing great with their new singer. But with The Darkness and Steel Panther the whole hair metal thing is still going really well. I saw Whiotesnake live 2 weeks ago and they were great although Coverdale is not what he used to be but he is 60 this year so that's just down to singing like that at his age. I saw Def Leppard 3 years ago and they sounded kinda dated and cheesey, i like them but there are loads of bands i like better.

cool
