Obscure 80s/90s R&B Jams

Okay org, If there's one thing you know best, its R&B. I'm asking y'all to post some good obscure R&B/Soul from the 80s and 90s, stuff that a casual listener of R&B/Soul wouldn't know about.

Show me what you got!

Guitarist Marvin Holmes has been recording with his groups "Justice" and "Uptights" in the 70s. Here a few later released tracks from the 80s.

First one is from 1983 called "Can I Get Nasty (Without Being Nasty)" and appears on his album "It's About Time".

The track has imo somewhat the vibe of jams on Don Blackman's self titled album from 1982.

Another and slower groove on that same album is "You Girl" which is not yet posted on youtube,

but can be heard towards the end of a cool soul-funk-jazz mix below:

www.mixcloud.com/track/ma.../you-girl/

A single from 1986 called "Feels So Good" on MCA Records. I just noticed that BBoy87 posted it once ( Marvin Holmes - Feels So Good )

He released another single somewhere around 1988, but i'm not really hip to that one

Here's some songs I used to enjoy as a kid in the '90s. Some of them were minor hits, but they are probably forgotten by most now. The first 2 are slower, but 2 of my favorites.

Lorenzo - Make Love 2 Me (1992)

Marc Nelson - Count on Me (1992)

Ladae feat. Chubb Rock - Party 2 Nite (Remix) [1996]

Special Generation - Spark of Love (1991)

*Nia Long is in this video

Jasmine Guy - Another Like My Lover (1990)

(Her biggest hit, for people who remember she had a music career)

La Rue - Serious [1991]

Me 2 U - Want U Back (1993)

*Wendy Williams is in this video

POV feat. Jade - All Thru the Night (1993)

"Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Speaking of Classic Example, I've always loved this one. That being said, they probably shouldn't have let the Boys come in and steal this song at the end (producers be damned)! lol

Great list, but I wouldn't consider these songs "obscure." They just don't get played much anymore.

I guess the album had been out for too long, but I still don't get why this wasn't a much bigger hit:

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I use to wear this one out back in 91, if my memory is correct these cats were on MC Hammer's label.

I haven't seen this video since the early 90's, I forgot that Nia used to be in vids back then. Mari Marrow from "How To Be A Player" is in this one too.

Rythm Syndicate - P.A.S.S.I.O.N. I like the song, the video is a showcase of all that was cheesy about the early 90s fashion (1990-1992). lol
