Where Are The Jacksons Outtakes? The Jacksons recorded 5 albums with MJ on board. MJ was even lead singer on 4 of them, so there has to be some outtakes from those albums [From self-titled, Going Places, Destiny, Triumph, & Victory]. Where are they? Have the brothers even discussed anything about them yet? The family has already been capitalizing off of MJ's death anyway, & at least we'd know those tracks are legit. I would love to hear how those outtakes sound. Anybody else feel this way???? الحيوان النادلة ((((|̲̅̅●̲̅̅|̲̅̅=̲̅̅|̲̅̅●̲̅̅|)))) ...AND THAT'S THE WAY THE "TITTY" MILKS IT!

Always wanted to hear the outtake called "That Girl". I think it was for Destiny or Triumph.

The Jacksons as a group is not really that popular. Probably why they've been ignored by the record company. Some of their songs have been put on Mike compilations and pretty much credited as solo Mike songs. Motown has over 250 unreleased J5 songs, plus solo material recorded by Mike, Jermaine, Marlon, Tito, & Jackie. There has never been an official video release of the Jacksons/J5. A few videos were put on that Michael Vision DVD though. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I guess you meant none from the Motown-archives ?... otherwise there's "Blame It On The Boogie" and "Can You Feel It"

Those 2 are on Vision, but had not been on any video release previously, except as excerpts on other Mike videotapes. But there has not been any group only videos or DVD's released. There's some J5 footage on the Ed Sullivan Show DVDs, but that is still part of someone else's set. They're pretty popular. Probably a top 10 most popular R&B act all time.
With the material, there hasn't been a bunch on compilations like their Motown material. Up until the middle of last decade, there was only two Jacksons releases out, and they were long out of print. A Greatest Hits and a Best of Remix disc.
It's still only a handful of Jacksons compilation disc available, however in 2008 they did rereleases all of their albums (save 2300 Jackson Street which is only available in import form.) PRINCE: Always and Forever

Everybody loves them but some hide that with "oh I hate them so I'm making a thread about them!"

The majority of The Jacksons (not J5) album sales came post Thriller. Some albums were not particularly successful when originally released (the Gamble & Huff albums, 2300 Jackson Street, Live!). Not a good sign for the brothers when even Motown releases J5 stuff as "Michael Jackson".

I look back at the 1970s sales post-J5 and it seemed like the folks thought they were over (Jermaine included) until they put out Destiny. 1978-1980 was a big comeback period for the Jacksons as far as commercial success went. Michael's success eclipsed it by 1981 we all know by now.

I think them being a child act made people think that as well too rarely when child acts grow they still have success but they was able to evolve.

Right. Had they not evolved, they wouldn't have gotten into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Goin Places was the only record not sucessful. It put them in a position to be let go had Destiny not been succesful. I think their debut went gold, Live was also gold. We know why 2300 Jackson Street wasn't a top record.
This MJ Remix Suite was a tribute album after his death. PRINCE: Always and Forever

Here's a list of outtakes. No clue on when we'll get them. Smme of them might not have been recorded. MJ used to say that he writes the hook/chorus to a record first and if he doesn't like the way the hook/chorus is, he would scrap the song. Don't know if it's the same for the group as a whole...Yeah, here they are
Triumph Slipped Away (Written by Michael Jackson and Marlon Jackson) That Girl (Written by The Jacksons) Why Can't I Be (Written by Michael Jackson)
Victory There Must Be More To Life Than This (Written by Freddie Mercury) Doing Dirty (Written by Michael Jackson and Marlon Jackson) [Possibly an early version of Dirty Diana] Far Far Away (Written by Michael Jackson) Power (Written by Jackie Jackson) [I believe this was released by another artist] Bad Company (Written by Michael Jackson) Pyramid Girl (Written by Michael Jackson) [This is actually the early version of Liberian Girl] Nona (Written by Jackie Jackson) State of Shock (Written by Michael Jackson and Randy Hansen) [Original version with Freddie Mercury was recorded for Thriller but wasn't finished in time] Born to Love (Written by Michael Jackson) Still in Love with You (Written by Michael Jackson) Tender (Written by Michael Jackson) Buffalo Bill (Written by Michael Jackson) [One of Michaels most prized songs. He talked very highly of it] Where Do I Stand (Written by Marlon Jackson) [This song was released on one of Marlons albums later] Victory (Written by Michael Jackson and Freddie Mercury)
Those are the only ones I know of. I know there's roughly about 100-200 unreleased records from the Motown era.

walks in and takes list out
The Jacksons were a pretty popular group. The 1976-1981 run was their most creative
The Jacksons- Pop #36, R&B #6 Goin' Places- Pop #63, R&B #1 Destiny- Pop #11, R&B #3 Triumph- Pop #10, R&B #1
They also weren't doing THAT bad in the sales or popularity either (1973-1975 was their worst period sales wise)
With that said, it's kind of hard to know WHO owns the unreleased music. They did tracks with Bobby Taylor before they signed with Epic back in late 1975 or early 1976 that should be looked into also.

Not a complete list but here's one
The Jacksons
For the 1976-1977 sessions, not much is really known. The brothers have unreleased tracks from those and the Destiny and Triumph sessions and Howard Mann has possessions of the audio tracks that were used on The Jacksons TV show as well as songs demos the brothers submitted to other artists when Joe was trying to launch Jackson Records in the mid 80s [Edited 7/13/11 2:21am] "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. This must be overseas, because according to Billboard (US), this album never charted. I've never heard any of the songs from it on the radio either. Uh, yes it charted in the U.S. It didn't chart overseas from what I heard.

The Goin' Places album peaked at No. 45 in the UK.
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
In regards to Goin' Places, listen to "Used To Be My Girl" by the O'Jays. This was produced by Gamble and Huff after Goin' Places came out. Listen to the vocals and arrangement and tell me that wouldn't have been a Jacksons song if they did one more album with that team.
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
It almost did go to the Jacksons but they left and they gave it to the O'Jays. IMHO they did the right thing. It fits the O'Jays because technically that's what some of the Jacksons PIR records sounded like: O'Jays records or Harold Melvin/Teddy Pendergrass records.
