One of the strangest chapters of her career happened in 1980.After her 1979 album 'Music Box' album didn't do very well,it seems that her record company was unsure of what to do with her.She recorded an album called 'Sweet Delight' and the title track was released as the lead-off single:

"Sweet Delight" by Evelyn 'Champagne' King---her 1980 single that was released, then quickly pulled from record stores

However, the record company panicked.A few weeks after the album and the single were in stores, the record company pulled it from shelves! They removed several tracks (including the title track single),replaced these with other songs and re-tilted the album 'Call On Me'.Those fans who bought the original 'Sweet Delight' album before it was pulled have a real collector's item on their hands.

The irony is that, after pulling and re-tooling the album,it still didn't sell very well. What Evelyn needed was a new producer and new sound to take her into the 80s...which they finally realized just in time for the next album.

I just listened to the "Music Box" disc for the very first time this past weekend. I was not impressed. This "Sweet Delight" track sounds better than anything on the "Musicbox" disc. I wonder why "Sweet Delight" was not brought up during the Unsung episode and why it's never mentioned in her various biographies?

I can't believe that a record company would release an album and the first single, then *pull* it out record stores a few weeks later! nuts that is absurd.

Yeah,I was hoping that it would be discussed on the 'Unsung' episode.I think it's an interesting (yet frustrating) chapter of her career.

'Face 2 Face' was a bold album for Evelyn to make.It took her into a funkier direction, with a few New Wave elements added to the mix (courtesy of Andre Cymone).I like the album, but I always wonder if she should have done one more album with Kashif. She had alot of success with him on the two previous albums.

I loved "Face 2 Face".
